Another thing to keep in mind is that the nominal die to choose for the re-roll may change based on circumstance/equipped items/results of prior rolls/etc. With the Linked Jackhammers, for example, if you roll three [star] hit results on those red dice, you may not want to risk the result becoming less-positive...so the value of the re-rolls drops precipitously. It's often much more complex than mathematical averages can indicate (especially if white dice are involved).

Fair point for the single die w/ re-rolls! I showed it the long way because I use a similar logic pattern each time I added a die.

I started with the Linked Jackhammer because it only uses one kind of die, and as a slug weapon, no question about re-rolling stars or wrenches.
