Personally, I think it's a material component in a summoning ritual to summon the Chicken Lord Pqwaaa.
And the next week, someone steals a 300-pound bigfoot statue. Curiouser and curiouser.

Hey, everything's copacetic until the statues of hodags, mothmen and Jersey Devils start vanishing. That means the fecal matter will soon strike the spinning impeller.

Three years ago someone stole a 10-metre (33-foot), 10-tonne (11-ton) statue of a mango from Bowen, Queensland: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-...issing/5279796

Weirder than that, someone made a 10-metre statue of a mango.

What's even weirder is that someone set up a makeshift meth lab inside the mango. Because when I think inconspicuous, I think 10-metre fiberglass mango.

I so want to include a giant fibre glass mango in my near future dystopic campaign. A random meth lab is just window dressing. Might have it on fire, for ***** and giggles.

Looking into it, the mango "theft" was actually a publicity stunt by a fast-food chain called Nando's, to advertise a new sauce (which I presume has mango). Where are you getting a makeshift meth lab from? Because that would indeed be an interesting story.

I learned about it from WTFIWWY Live's 3/3/14 episode, but I think the article was also linked in this thread.

Yeah, that's where I heard it. WTFIWWY is usually reliable.

Did a little digging. I found a few places talking about the "meth mango" bit, all of which referenced a specific article. Going there automatically redirects to Google.com, which usually indicates a site blocking traffic from your location. I tried a couple of free proxies with no luck. Using the Wayback Machine, the site appears to have once been a repository of crazy stories from around the interwebs; it's now a repository of thumbnails from pornographic videos, so I'd suggest steering clear. If you want to give it a shot yourself, here's the link:
http://www.epicinter.net/makeshift-m...ollowing-theft

I'd say it's a case of a fake news article, a few more-reputable sites falling for it, etc. The Nando's aspect is pretty clear-cut (you can see the video they made about it in the article I linked), and is even referenced in the "meth mango" stories. The mango "went missing" Feb 17, and was found by Feb 24, pretty much in the center's backyard. For the story to be true, this means that in the mere week between it being moved and being officially found, some crazed methheads must have found the mango, discovered the access hatch, decided this giant mango that's been reported as missing on the news and is literally right beside the place it's missing from is an excellent place to cook some meth, and set up their lab. Riiiiight.

On the bright side, searching for info found a related bit of Real Life Weirdness: police in Nogales arrested a man trying to smuggle nearly $1M worth of methamphetamine in a truck hauling mangoes. Mangoes are apparently a popular way to try and smuggle drugs in that area, as in 2015 port officers caught a man trying to smuggle, again, nearly $1M worth of drugs - marijuana this time - in a shipment of mangoes. Another good reason to always wash fruit before you eat it.

As a side note, WTFIWWY is usually hilarious and a good place to find Real-Life Weirdness.
