Updated Thad (same link). Left some loose cash to buy gear when we hear the mission brief. I think this is final.

Thad looks good! He still can take -5 in quirks if you want. I've added him to the list of characters in the second post

Re: Warriors of Haunden
Somehow, I got you game's introductory mixed up in my mind with a somewhat similar one on another Gaming site. That had the game's environment as being plains forest and swamp. So when you asked about what I like to spend the last 17 points. I was going to ask if my PC needed Survival (Swamp) as well. But first T went and rechecked your game intro. and discovered my mistake. I guess he won't be needing the Boating/TL2 (Unpowered) skill either. So up to 18. How about 10 more points into Perception, bringing it up to 15. Bring the 3 Skills based on it, up as well. Then 4 more points into Stealth. It would be natural for him to have the Naturalist Skill. Rhiannon, his mother, would have told him to be on the lookout for some kind of herb or special mushroom. For her magical or medicinal concoctions. Each time he went out hunting, checking his trapline and foraging for edible plants and mushrooms. Fishing is also a skill that he needs to have. His little sister's name is Branwen. Their father and Rhiannon's husband's name had been Kenwric. Four winters before, he was out checking his trapline as Fenian was checking his. When seemingly out of nowhere high winds blew in a blizzard out of the northwest. Fenian was barely able to find his way home, seemingly half frozen to death. Kenwric never did make it home, as his trapline lay in the direction the blizzard had came in from. A search party from the village tried to find him afterwards. But had no luck in doing so. Even after the spring thaw no sign of his remains were found. It had been Kenwriv who had taught Fentan everything he knew. How about Bowyer and Fletcher Skills as well.
As for the 'Trickster' Disadvantage. I don't think that would work in such a small society. His parents would not put up with such behavior. How about replacing it with the basic Code of Honor and Honesty Disadvantages. When I mentioned in my email that he sometimes came up with clever ideas. I meant things like snowshoes, which he came up at the age of 9. When he started running traplines in the deep snow with his Father. Then when he was 10 they were building their treehouse. He was the who came with the idea for constructing a simple crane and a adjustable counterweight system of adding stones to a strong close knit rope net webbed bag of sorts. To lift heavy log beams and other heavy building materials up into the tree. A year later, when he was 11. Was the first time he had noticed that in summer that those in the Village had to twice daily, in the morning and late afternoon had to form a bucket brigade of sorts of two dozen villagers or so. To haul water from the creek that the village sat next to. To water the village's grain fields and garden blots. After thinking on it for a few days, Fenian came up with the idea for a irrigation system. Going up stream and digging a series of ditches that would bring water down them every time the spillway was opened. Noticing those who had their homes so close to the creek that they would periodically get flooded. He came up with the idea of building them on deeply sunk series of upright poles that put the floor above the highest flood waters. As the Villagers had to go further and further away to harvest the trees that they needed for building and firewood. It was Fenian who pointed out to his father that it would be easier to cut down trees upstream of the village and simply float them down to the village. Instead of hauling it overland. All these ideas and a few other, had Fenian told to his Father. Who knew that they would be more easily excepted by the Villgers if they thought they were his, rather some young kid. Fenian didn't mind when he was young. But after his father went missing. The villagers seem to forget whose family came up with ideas to make their lives better and a bit easier to live. Anyway, better add Snowshoeing as a Skill. How about Area Knowledge and Languages as well. Also, as far as Quirks go. the first one will be that he thinks his Father is somehow still alive. Concerning Anoras, surely, she must have been taught by his mother, Rhiannon. I know there was more I wrote last night. But I can't think of it right now. I best get this to you before it disappears as well. Quote:

Snowshoes aren't in Gurps basic. They use the hiking skill... which isn't a bad pick here. Do you want area knowledge for the larger area or just for the spots around the village? Herbs and such would be herb lore, not naturalist, and survival will cover a lot of the other stuff I think you want. You can still take naturalist, but with a single point in it you'd get an 8. I've dropped his mother's Frequency of Appearance down to 9 or less: it costs a lot less points and I think her staying near the village most the time is going to result in her being available, but only if you're willing to go all the way back home. That frees up 6 points. You mention "Languages". you have 3 unspent language points you can put towards speaking or writing Venasir or speaking Yorikup. What sort of "Code of Honor" do you want? I'm not seeing an obvious choice. Here is what we have for review. And the GCS file.

'Snowshoes aren't in Gurps basic. They use the hiking skill... which isn't a bad pick here.' That sounds good. 'Do you want area knowledge for the larger area or just for the spots around the village?' However far one would go hunting. I would imagine some years a small group of hunters might have to go four or five days away to find a herd of auroch, bison, elk etc. Is there a trade gathering held each summer that some of the villagers go to trade surplus items. That he might of gone to? Are there traveling traders that periodically stop off at the village? That he may of learned more of the greater world when lessoning to their tales. 'Herbs and such would be herb lore, not naturalist, and survival will cover a lot of the other stuff I think you want. You can still take naturalist, but with a single point in it you'd get an 8.' Please remove 'Naturalist' it's useless at that level. 'I've dropped his mother's Frequency of Appearance down to 9 or less: it costs a lot less points and I think her staying near the village most the time is going to result in her being available, but only if you're willing to go all the way back home. That frees up 6 points.' Sounds good. You mention "Languages". you have 3 unspent language points you can put towards speaking or writing Venasir or speaking Yorikup. I just now went looking for what you wrote concerning languages in Character Creation and look what I found with it! I wasn't mistaken after all. 'The TL is 2. Languages are Huanden, Venasir, and Yorikup. Only Venasir has a written form. The local terrain is woodlands, plains, and swampland. There is lots of water in the terrain, and a dramatic excess of cliffs. So will need to add Survival (Swamp) 2pt. and Survival (Plains) 1 pt. will be needed as well as the Boating/TL2 (Unpowered) 2 pt. An yes, put the 3 unspent language points into speaking or writing Venasir or speaking Yorikup. What sort of "Code of Honor" do you want? I'm not seeing an obvious choice. You know your basic "Code of Honor": Treat others like you would like to be treated. Lend aid to those who are truly in need of such. Defend those who cannot defend themselves. Speak the truth, in all matters. How about give him a -10 Disadvantage for the above and drop the 'Loner' Disadvantage? Quirks 1. Still thinks his Father is somehow still alive, out there somewhere. 2. Dislikes snakes very much. 3. Turtle Soup is his favorite meal. 4. He had a childhood crush on Anoras. 5. Blackberries is his favorite berry to eat. So, with the 5 pts. taken and 1 pt. added up above, that should leave us with 7 points. Add a point each to 'Climb' and 'Jump'. Use 2 points to raise 'Hike' up to 12. That leaves 3, is that enough for Area Knowledge? Does Personal Basics include a backpack? He needs Rope as well, along with a Canoe. I guess that's all for now, thanks. Last edited by Valornor; 11-11-2023 at 05:09 PM. |
