"Faster" Aim Maneuver.
I am playing a power campaign and wanted to create a innate attack power with the homing modifier and wanted to be able to fire it every turn however firing homing attacks require an aim maneuver.
My solution would be buying the altered time rate advantage with a limitation "aim only". I wanted how to calculate the limitation and if there was an easier way to do so. |

Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
I don't have the rules in hand, but are you sure you're interpreting that right? I think it's actually that homing attacks are launched using an aim maneuver instead of an attack maneuver, not in addition.

Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
Have you looked at how Gunslinger provides you your acc bonus without aiming?

Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
@Ulzgoroth I went trough the homing rules (p. 412) again and it says that the attack is a ready maneuver. However the modifier rules does not state that i have to take an action other than aiming, so I am not sure about what exactly to do.
@roguebfl the homing modifier calls for an aim maneuver. Plus i am not a gunner. |

Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
I believe the idea with aiming is that you have to Aim in order to "lock on" and then use a Ready to actually fire. This actually isn't too far off from an Innate Attack with Takes Extra Time. With that in mind, I'd say combining Homing with Reduced Time would probably work, although that certainly isn't RAW-legal. Make Reduced Time cost +50% instead of +20% - for an overall +100% modifier, assuming ordinary vision - and it should work out. As normal, you increase your attack's skill by buying up Acc. It may be appropriate to only benefit from half Acc for this attack, however, as you're skipping the Aim maneuver...
EDIT: On second thought, don't apply Acc at all unless you actually opt to Aim, and buy up Reliable, probably at +20%/level, to get skill greater than 10. Alternatively, yeah, you could go with ATR (Aim only), a modified version of Gunslinger, or even switch from Homing to Guided and grab some Compartmentalized Minds. Personally, I feel when improving the abilities of a single Advantage you should just modify the Advantage, but that can sometimes be a bit hairy (and RAW-illegal). Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
If you want to attack every turn, don't use homing.

Re: "Faster" Aim Maneuver.
Per B412-413, homing weapons require an Aim and a Ready maneuver; since B106 specifically references those rules, presumably those rules apply to the Homing advantage as well.
So yeah, ATR sounds like the way to go if you actually want this advantage. On the other hand, you can spend the same points buying your Innate Attack up to some ridiculous value and get the same overall results. |
