Default Salvaging, looting, and scrounging...

I'm going to run a long post-apocolypse game (I know, zombies have been used to death, but that's the point, isn't it?) which will focus heavily on survival and scrounging.

PCs will start in a city just before the fall and will (hopefully) survive through looting and scavenging. As such, I need result tables for basically everything, and ideally it'll include appropriate bonuses for skills, the amount of looting that a place has already seen, and naturally the structures that were there before.

It should also be contemporary, so no laser pistols or swords (or, at least, not many).

Is there a good GURPS supplement or a fan-made resource that includes that sort of information?

Thanks!

One of Games Workshops games, Mordheim, was all about looting and scavenging in a post-apocalypse city, and probably worth looking at for inspiration. The rules are free from GW here. The tables are in Part 3.

If the link doesn't work, navigate to Specialist Games - Mordheim - Mordheim Resources.

The quick and dirty version is depending on how well you did in a game, roll X D6 and look at the chart. You could change X so that it's based off total Per of the characters or whatever. It also has rules for finding merchants, where a hero searching for a merchant doesn't get to explore, and the chance is linked to the rarity of what you're looking for.

That looks good, but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I'd like to be able to take information like "This block is a residential area of moderate wealth near the coast, and it was evacuated four days ago and has seen light looting" and get a set of modifiers to the rolls such as -2 on rolls to find food (since some of it's spoiled) and -6 to find jewelry and other valuables since early, novice looters are likely to grab that first, but no penalty to mechanical and electric items.

It doesn't need to be that complex, of course, but it'd be nice if it had some switches and sliders to play with.

My advice is: Get Dead Reign from Palladium!

I use this myself for just the same thing, it contains more than enough tables for looting and searching houses and persons, even for searching railroad cars...

The three books I refer to are:
Dead Reign RPG
Dead Reign Civilization gone
Dead Reign Dark places

Example:
100 Random Corpse Searches (Book 1)
Random Encounters and Resources Tables (Book 2) and so on...

Low-Tech Companion has some survival rules. Also political and economic rules if your post-apoc world is thrown back far enough for that.

There's a fan-made GURPS Fallout that has some scavenging tables.

There was a post-apoc book or series in development that was rumored last year, "After the End" as the working title. Last seen on "indefinite hold", but I don't recall any recent status.

Just found out that there is a fourth book: Endless Dead with even more encounter tables....

I built a spreadsheet for this purpose. It's been playtested, and I'm mostly satisfied with its functionality, but I'm sure you would want to save a copy and fine-tune it to your liking. Let me know if you have trouble figuring out how to use it.

Looks good. Does this spreadsheet produce the contents of the structure, or what the players find? Do I roll separately for the results if this is just the contents?

Under mods, what do the modifiers (small, bulk, partial) apply to? The objects or the structure?

I think I get most of it, though. Thanks!

Everything feeds into the "# Units Available" line, which is the number of units of useful stuff (described in the notes on the PFB line) available to be found and recovered in the structure—the Search/Scrounge/Whatever check is factored in. The modifiers you mentioned were sort of a holdover from previous versions, but the idea was that if you were only looking for "partial" units (individual twinkies instead of boxes) it might be easier to find something to fit that bill, or harder if you're looking specifically for bulk-packaging—can probably ignore those.

If you end up using it, let me know if you think of some major tweaks it needs. I discovered I needed to add a "school" to the list of building types; haven't got around to adding it yet, obviously.
