so if you meet a monster and use a card that makes the monster friendly or makes it go away do you still get to take a face down card ?

Most such cards tell you what to do; if so, follow the instructions on the card (as part of the "cards trump rules" metarule). If there are no instructions on the card, then currently you would get to Loot The Room by taking a face-down Door.

However, I feel pretty confident that the "friendly monsters" clause is going to disappear the next time we update the rulesheet. We don't actually define that term anywhere, and most of the cards that would create the situation have explicit instructions anyway. I would not fret if groups just chose to ignore that phrase henceforth.
