Re: New Xp System: Not a Fan
Indeed, Tippets!
So revised slightly, progression based on the new XP system for different levels of activity. Again, this is game year advances http://melee.psyops.org/progression.jpeg And a comparison between the original gangsta and Legacy TFT: http://melee.psyops.org/Compared.jpeg And to really make Tippets point: http://melee.psyops.org/compared2.jpeg Can't tell which is which? That's because OG TFT at 100XP/year looks almost identical to Legacy TFT at 500XP/year. GMs, step up Last edited by RobW; 05-08-2019 at 09:18 AM. |

Your chart maps pretty well to how I actually think of the NPC population. That is, the most experienced/gifted people (who survive a life of great adventures) are on the top track at 500 XP/year, or a bit more than that. Though many/most of them probably die before they get there, they can get to 38-40 points by their late 20's, but don't really get much higher than that ever due to the doubling XP costs of increasing attributes. Other active violent / adventuring types who get some experience, but not all the time, are more likely not to die, and are the types you'll tend to encounter most as thugs and soldiers and typical competent-and-experienced-but-not-great-people (i.e.32-36 points). They're sort of like your 100 XP/year line. But then I think most people are the average non-adventurers, and I think they tend to look like your bottom 25 XP/year line, or lower, starting at 28-32 points, and not getting into much if any trouble, they tend to survive but earn 25 or less XP a year, and they explain why the average person is 30 points, and probably will stay there, or not gain very many points over their careers. Of course the other variable is whether they can/do spend XP on anything else. If people really need to spend 500 XP per talent/spell point, that has a massive effect on these tables, especially the lower curves. It doesn't affect me so much because I house-ruled that some talents can be learned by spending time learning them rather than XP. |

Re: New Xp System: Not a Fan
Your first OG TFT chart looks about like what our games experienced for the best surviving characters, getting up around 45 points by about age 30 constantly adventuring.
I don't get why your lines seem to start at age 18 and at higher point totals for the higher XP lines. We started most TFT PCs at age 20 at 32 points. |

I really like the idea that the Legacy Edition's "max" 40pt character very plausibly reflects my image of the "max" protagonist, someone 30-40 years old, with a lifetime of dangerous adventuring experience. It's kind of amazing how well they mesh. I doubt that SJ did any modelling of this himself, but somehow intuited the relationship, in some uncanny way. |

Re: New Xp System: Not a Fan
Well SJ did post a few XP system ideas to the forum (I'm now leaning towards his original revision idea myself) and got feedback from several people who actually played the game, so that might have helped a bit.
And/or we just got lucky. Some other experienced TFT GMs prefer it to end up with higher values for the top-level people. |

Re: New Xp System: Not a Fan
OK updated. Graphs assume all XP invested in attributes.
The graphs show number of attributes as of the start of the figure's birthday. Advancement for different XP rates under Legacy: http://melee.psyops.org/progression.jpeg And here comparing advancement for Legacy and the OG system at a rate of 500 XP/yr: http://melee.psyops.org/compared.jpeg Legacy advancement @ 500 XP/yr looks a lot like the OG system at 100 XP/yr: http://melee.psyops.org/compared2.jpeg And by request, TippetsTX proposal is intermediate, although closer to the OG: http://melee.psyops.org/progressTipp.jpeg |
