Default Using Cheat! on Item Enhancers and similar.

Can I use a cheat card to put a Treasure card which doesn't enter into play on it's own, like a weapon or steed enhancer, or even the "enhancer enhancers", totally in absence of a target item? When an enhanced item is take out of use application and carried, do the enhancers remain on those items, even when traded to another player as facilitated by other cards?

Item Enhancers remain with the Items that they are attached to, so if they are stolen, traded, or lost, the Item enhancer goes with the Item. Cheat! is a different story: It always gets discarded. There are no enhancer enhancers that are Items, so that issue is moot.

As for using Cheat! to bring out an Item Enhancer or a Steed Enhancer without attaching it to and Item or Steed: Yes, as long as it's an Item.

you can't put an item enhancer with a cheat card alone (http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=168814)

This is all good, of course. But what can you say about an attempt to steal a Ship Enhancer, which is not played on a ship, but cheated?

But the official ruling from Andrew is Cheat can't be used to put in enhancer in play to start with so the question about stealing is mute.

Generic "Item Enhancer" vs "Ship Enhancer".

Ship Enhancers that are Items are allowed according to the "The Cheat! Card " post:

Obviously you are looking for an official answer, and hopefully one will be forthcoming, however, I think the rules as given (including the post referenced above on how Cheat! works) suggest that a Thief cannot steal something that he cannot put into play.

It is clear that when an Item with Cheat! attached is stolen, the Cheat! gets discarded. Other rulings have said that the Item the Thief steals must go into play. http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php?p=1047228&

In the case of a Ship/Steed/Hireling Enhancer (which can be Cheated into play without attaching them to something, but can't otherwise be put into play without having a legal target to attach them to), the fact that you cannot put them into play (unless you have something appropriate to attach them to) at least implies that you cannot steal them.

I suppose it is possible that the answer is that you CAN steal them, but they then get discarded because you cannot legally put them into play. But that would definitely be something that would have to be clarified by an official source, because there is no rule I know of about discarding Items that you try to illegally put into play.

Even in the case of Big Items, where you have to discard extras if you LOSE the ability to have multiples, there isn't a rule saying that if you try to put an extra into play, you then discard it. You just flat aren't allowed to do so.

But Andrew's post later overrides that.

No, that post is specifically referencing Item Enhancers, not Ship Enhancers. Andrew even links to the same post that states that Ship Enhancers CAN be cheated.
