i don't think that's what he was saying.

sabin in final fantasy 6 was a pretty cool "monk" type character.

Vow (Always fight unarmed) and Vow (Never wear armor) are both worth [-15] (see Dungeon Fantasy 1: Adventurers, pp. 9, 11).

Sorry for not making myself clear.

That's okay.

I was actually kinda hoping to be corrected and learn about the early 70s Korean roots of fantasy RPGs and online gaming in general. Shoot, they've got the sun source of all martial arts, why not of gaming as well?

There are theories around that the Eastern martial arts were heavily influenced by that Indian martial arts were heavily influenced by Greek martial arts, and that influence was subsequently spread with Buddhism.

So maybe we should be looking for Ancient Greek MMOs?

But perhaps "MMO" instead stood for "Massive Multi-player Org-"... erm, nevermind.

I'll try and take these inherent disadvantages and turn them into actual gameplay "disadvantages" and see if I can get some crazy CP back from the GM for things such as "Vow(don't use weapons)" or "Vow(don't use armor)"
All GURPS player character creations are subject to a disadvantage limit, so there's a limit to how much you can do with this. Also not that my attept to build a 150 CP "monk" already included 50 CPs of disads.

What is the CP value of those two Vows, though? Anybody know?

And to Russell: Keep in mind that if you do take both Vows, you can exploit them further, by taking a Pact Limitation on your DR and your Striking ST, and by further Limiting your DR with -40% doesn't stack with worn armour and your Striking ST with "unarmed damage only" which I don't actually know what is. One attack is -60%, so this would be a bit less, maybe -40%, but it could be more or less than that.

If the GM uses that particular, optional rule.
