He looks at the picture.



"You drew this? that's quite good. Do you paint?"


After the interrogation is done, he instructs the soldiers to house Julian in the Fortress and not let him out.

"Tell the soldiers if you dream anything else. I will revisit you in a few days."

Julian has sure seen a lot of variation in how much his captors do for him.


He's shown a room: a smallish one with wooden bars over the windows and six rugs on the floor... maybe its meant for more people than just him. The window goes to an open-topped courtyard, but the courtyard is interior: no exits.

Julian is told the mess is down the hall, and not to try to leave.

I go to the mess. Even if I'm not feeling hungry it gives me something to do.

No one is there, and there is no food yet. there are windows, though none he could fit through. A different enclosed courtyard has several soldiers playing dice.



people occasionally walk back and forth, some of them are soldiers, some seem to be administrative.

Well, let's look around for how to get to the enclosed courtyard. I wonder if this place is as confusing as the underground house.

Getting out there is simple: this building seems to be built around three interior courtyards, in a sort of figure 8 with an extra circuit. probably to make sure there is enough light in all the rooms. Julian also finds ways to go upstairs, and even onto the roof... though if he heads onto the roof he's told to go back down.

How tall is the building? How many stories?

I decide to go to the highest floor practical and head around the three loops, trying to get an idea of what the area surrounding the fortress looks like.

Its three stories high, about 100 yards from the city wall, and has a very functionally fortified roof. The city nearby is all second story buildings, and its neither exceptionally rich or poor. There is a nearby market square.

Well, with apparently a massive increase in free time, I decide to take some time to rest and draw pictures of the what I can see of the city.
