If vessels are usually immune to damage from extreme temperatures than an Ofanite of Fire's Attunement is pretty useless, isn't it?

To paraphrase Beth, Texas sun is one thing, actual fire is another. I'd say that if something causes actual body hits from damage (physical burns or freezing) vessels are affected. They're just immune to the metabolic screw-ups humans have when we can't control our internal temperature.

Part of The Final Trumpet takes place in Antarctica, and the PCs are sent there to do a mission and no special protection is required. I think this is as close as we get to canon on the subject.

NO protection or no extraordinary protection? If they say parka, you know the limits. Since I don't have the book, I cannot comment. Nor do I know where the action takes place.

A Celestial running around naked in Antarctica would find his janglies clanking when they knocked together. But that is not canon.

It never specifies a protection or lack of protection in FT, though if the word comes through the Demon of Bad News, he does call out "Don't freeze your horns (or haloes) off." Even jocularly, that seems to suggest that Antarctic cold would at least be NOTICED.

(Myself, I suspect the author was assuming the PCs would use common sense when heading into freezing cold. I know -- isn't that level of innocence sweet?)
