Default Teeth: What is...

OK looked round and around etc.

Biting is normally ST damage crushing.

1. Then you could have 'sharp teeth' = cutting damage
2. Then you could have 'beak or cainines' = Large Piercing
3. Then you could have 'Fangs a la big teeth' = impaling damage

AFAIK Large Piercing is 1.5 multplier as with Cutting damage, is there anything I am missing out. What makes these 2 distinct, why the differentiation?

Impaling damage is double - as it cannot be swung it cannot be stuck (not sure if that is old 3rd E or it is still in 4th E)

  1. Large Piercing is reduced for Injury Tolerance: Unliving and Homogenous as well as limbs. Cutting is not.
  2. Piercing attacks can target the Eye and the Vitals. Cutting cannot.

Here are a few other minor differences between pi+ and cut.

Cut is more useful
  • When attacking arm, leg, hand, or feet hit location, pi+ gets a reduced wounding multiplier *1, but cut keeps its *1.5. (See p. B399.)
  • When attacking structures (like doors and walls), some types of structures loses their DR as if it were semi-ablative against pi+, but cut reduces DR as if it were ablative. (See pp. B558-559.)

Pi+ is more useful
  • Pi can target armor chinks, while cut can't. (See pp. B400.)
  • Pi gets the *3 wounding multiplier when it hits on vitals. (See pp. B400.)
  • If the additional rules for hit locations in Low-Tech are being used, pi has a 1 in 6 chance to hit the opponent's vitals on a ordinary torso hit. (See pp. 102-103 of Low-Tech.)
