Why would rolling high be better than rolling low with Fright Checks? More intense terror should be more damaging to the psyche.

I mean a large MoS, a very low roll, i.e. you pass your Fright Check by a lot. You'd probably need to allow for not giving the success for easy rolls, i.e. if it's only a very small thing with a lot of bonuses for being small, you don't count those when working out how much you passed the check by.
