Default Scholarship and knowledge management without computers

A couple weeks ago a friend introduced me to a knowledge management system from the mid 1500s (paper-based, of course) called a zettelkasten. "Knowledge graphs" are starting to make high tech news these days and they are essentially electronic zettelkastens.

This strikes me as something that could be prevalent on Cidri and could have been used by the ancient Greeks (like maybe in the Library of Alexandria).

It was created by a Swiss doctor named Conrad Gessner but it gained recent renown because of a 20th century German scientist named Niklas Luhmann who ended up with more than 90,000 cards in his knowledge base.

The new paper-based spells would be very useful for something like this. Zettelkasten could form the core of information-based adventures, copying rival zettels, etc.

Hyperlinks? Is that anything like mapping a gate network?

It's more like the way threads of mana follow the connections between two objects via sympathy and contagion. A wizard can bind two things together that way if they choose, and use that link to various ends (sometimes creating a gate, but also other effects).

Hyperlinks are kind of like that, but with words.
