(IC) Lost in Dreams (Julian)

You're not sure if the description of the "Flying Fort" gives them any more confidence, but it probably gives them more knowledge. Eventually the orders to form up are given, and the soldiers march out of town in another parade.

Work is light today. Everyone is taking lots of breaks and moving slowly. Jamal doesn't seem to mind. He gives everyone food as normal, and praises the shop for how much work they got done while the soldiers were in town.

At the end of the day he says tomorrow they'll need to get back to their full pace, because their stock is low and they need to replenish.

He doesn't dream that night.

I'm glad I got a bit of a rest day between the late nights and this.

Julian works two more days, and then the third day is another break of sorts. Once again, Julian is invited over to the family to eat. This place doesn't have a concept of a week, just lots of holidays that get used as breaks.

The check-ins are uneventful, and his dreams... well, he has to hope that mishmashed nightmares of various unpleasant people he's interacted with aren't significant in the same way that seeing Taqib is.


On the morning after the holiday, A Faris of Air is with the soldier.



Faris: "This is the boy? He looks like a begger."
Contact: "You asked to see him. He was the first we knew about the flying fort being at El'Carid."
Faris: "And we're keeping him here because we think he's a spy? Seems he can spy pretty well regardless of where he is."
Contact: "Anything else? They're really excited about what you can do. Seems the flying fort was at El'Carid after all."
Faris <to Julian>: "Who is your loyalty to? Why are you here?"

I figured Detect would trigger off of the relevant dreams and help differentiate them.

"Nobody really. I just want the fighting to stop. I don't think the Riask are likely to do that.

Faris: "So you don't like the Riask, and you'll side with whatever side is likely to stop the fighting?"

I take a broad interpretation. "I don't know. Why are you here?"

Faris: "I'm here to check if a spy has anything to report, and to look at you for them. Your dreams are interesting to <awkward translation segment> .... my leaders. They want to know more. And the best way to use you."

I shake my head. "No, why are you" I open my arms wide for emphasis "here? I've been to Riask. I've been elsewhere. I don't know why I was there. I don't know why I'm here, so I just muddle along."

I look at the coin carefully. Funny how I haven't handled money here until now.

Its small and silver, maybe the size of a quarter. A stylized palm tree is stamped on one side, three lines indicating water with a star above it on the other.

He's not sure what its worth.

"Sure! I just need to let Jamal know."

We will tell you where to go tomorrow.



Jamal is sorry to hear the news. As is Kaddan.

Jamal: "We will miss you. Do you want to go? Or are they forcing you?"
