9) somewhere in the Canadian Rockies.
OR
9) an island in the south pacific
OR
9) a carribean island
OR
7) Ayer's rock

I agree with keeping it out of the US. I kind of lean away from significant landmarks and more towards deep remote locations. I'd prefer not to do "Vile Vortices"

9. Something else (please specify).
A hidden base under the ice sheet in Antarctica. Could play into two conspiracy theories at once.

1. The hidden Nazi base that was built towards the end of the war. The Stargate could have already been there and the Stargate program just moved in.

2. There is a pseudoscience theory that Atlantis was actually Antarctica, and that the poles shifted moving it from its previous position near the equator. It's also the theory why so many civilizations have flood myths. I mean if magic exists, why not lean into some of the more interesting areas that could reasonably happen. For more information see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catacl...ift_hypothesis

If you wanted the base could be built in the remains of the ancient city, and that's where the stargate was found instead of egypt.

Agreed. Even the "more sciencey" Star Trek has that.

Again agreed. The "Elves in Space" section of GURPS Fantasy Folk: Elves mentions that the Asgard of Stargate SG-1 are very elf-like.

OK, so three votes for 9, but all of them for different locations. Two votes for 6, and one for 7. Poll remains open, because that's really not a clear consensus.

Count me as going with Varyon for Puerto Rico.

If it's really going to be Stargate-like where the base is shouldn't matter that much. The base is mostly isolated, mostly self-contained and mostly serves as a jumping off point for epsiodic adventures elsewhere.

This is such a great thread. Reminds a little of a campaign that a GURPS blog described many years ago that took XCOM and reskinned the aliens as something more magical than technological.

I may start voting in these polls, if that's okay!

Sorry, invite only.
...
Obviously, I'm kidding. Part of the purpose of these threads is that anyone can jump in and offer their two cents. Heck, if you're so inclined, feel free to make a vote on the current question.

Yeah, feel free to.

I think I might have considered making something Bermuda Triangle-related an option when I was writing the poll, but forgot to do an entry for it.

OK, new question, due to the previous question not giving a clear enough consensus:

Stargate Command Question III

A narrower version of Question II.

1. A base in Newfoundland, near L'Anse aux Meadows.

2. Puerto Rico, at the edge of the Bermuda Triangle.

3. Another Bermuda Triangle-related location (please specify), perhaps Bermuda itself, or some sort of hidden island or constructed sea base near the centre (a set of oil rigs attached to each other is more plausible than a literal submarine base, but the latter could exist in this sort of setting).

4. Something else (please specify).

Please remember to include the number(s) of your preferred option(s) when you vote.

*******

Answer: 1 wins with three votes counting mine, 2 has two votes, and 4 has one (Antarctica).
