Or are you the one we heard was chasing down some highwaymen? Come to think of it, there was another posse searching for some redskins that got all riled up for some reason. Damn, how many deputies this town got?"

"I am not aware of any posse sen tto chase road agents. When was this?" asks the deputy after exchanging a look with one of the other men in his group.

Sampson and Samuel

After what feels like an eternity you finally break out of the trees and onto the trail again. Your navigation was not as exact as you would have liked. You have come out above the burnt wagon but not as far up trail as you hoped. You will have to ride hard again to catch up to your wagon.

Shortly after the two of you emerge the two girl's also break cover. They look scared out of their minds but seem unharmed.

"Oh, heck," Pericles drawls slowly, pretending to think. He looks back down the trail, "just earlier today back down the trail we saw 'em. They were hot on somebody's tracks, for sure."

The two men on the left of the posse's line exchange worried looks. This is followed closely by the man on the extreme left turning in his saddle to examine their back trail. He seems mighty interested in that trail.
"Shady Gulch has two deputies and a sherrif. Now we were only sent to guard Mr. Oxard but we wont mind you fellas tagging on but we should be going now"

"All right, there's certainly been sign of Injuns about, so I won't complain to have a few more guns guarding us."

"So if you aren't the fellows who were supposed to meet me, when are they coming?" Pericles peers up the road a ways, "eh, we aren't going to get much of any place with that wagon train blocking the road. Why don't you go see what's slowing them up?"

The man to the right of Deputy Oldman stirs in his saddle and says "Deputy didnt the sherrif say something about another guy we should look out for. I didnt catch the name on acount of me checking my horses leg at the time"

The deputy purses his lips for a while then smiles, "Damn it to hell you are right he did mention someone else. For the life of me I can not recal your name fella but he did say you would have two wagons. Must be you. As for that wagon train dont worry your self we know another trail into the gulch. Just follow us"

Free from the trees your little group kick their mounts to great speed. even then Samuel and your self soon begin to out pace the girls once again. Though this is risky you are chewing up the trail at a rate of knots when you finally catch sight of your wagon and the fellas you left it with only they are no longer alone. There is another fella behind them on a mule leading two other mules and a group of four horsemen in front with guns drawn.
