Shipping Costs?

Hello,

Does anyone know why shipping physical items from Warehouse 23 costs so much? I wanted to order the new Meta-Tech book in print and the $17.95 book costs $10.37 to ship to MN. Seems like a lot as the lowest shipping option.

Hello LaRue,
Our shipping rates are quoted directly from the carriers and we are constantly trying to get better rates. Unfortunately everything is costing more due to inflation and shipping rates are not immune to that.

True, but for a single book printed in the USA and sent to the USA, this is why Media Mail exists. SJGames can't influence the pricing of any individual carrier, but it does seem like a high rate for a 40-page book that should probably come in at about eight ounces. Not everything needs to be 1-3 day service.

Media Mail exists so that schools and non-profits can send out educational material.
We cannot offer this service because most of our items have advertising in them and that is the one major restriction for using Media Mail.

Ah, that's true! My stuff is "just the book" so it still qualifies. (Edited to add: I don't mention other books in my stuff, so no ad content.)

Side story: I once had a Postmaster General jump on to a Reddit thread I was on and confirm a statement I made ("putting a freakin' post-it note or business card in with otherwise qualifying product disqualifies it"). Media Mail has a lot of restrictions.
