Terribly sad.

I first encountered her art via a Metagaming Concepts catalog; the spot illustrations on the listing for the then-pretty-new Dungeons & Dragons were one of Jaquay's first sales! (Imagine my disappointment of seeing the ACTUAL art in the D&D books!)

I only "met" Jennell online; we both had a laugh about the number of unpainted miniatures we had to get around to painting . . . someday.

Jennell's wife Rebecca started a GoFundMe to help with medical debt; now donations will also help with funeral expenses. If you can spare some $, please consider a donation.

I was just working with her on the new Central Casting. I'd told her previously on social media how much her work had meant to me and she had responded and talked with me and I was a little star struck. We chatted and I told her if she ever needed a critical eye for writing to please let me know. She did a few weeks later and I started digging into CC for her.

Her writing meant so much to me. The Savage Frontier remains one of my favorite Realm's expansions and her illustration for Dragon Mountain is just how I view dragons. I ran both of those till the box fell apart.

...Central Casting. I simply cannot tell you how much I loved those books (however flawed). I *still* use them.

I didn't know her personally well, but I feel like through her writing I'd know her a while.

Jennell's words and style have had such a huge influence on me as a gamer and writer. I'm so sad and angry she's gone from us. I cried yesterday. First tears I've shed in a while.

I donated what I could. I hope anyone who has ever read or used anything she had a hand in do the same.

I certainly agree in considering Griffin Mountain a superb campaign sourcebook, one whose structure exactly suited my needs as a GM. I ran a campaign from it back in the 1990s and more recently bought the reissued version, because my original copy had been read to death. I consider it a classic of our art.

From Rebecca Heineman, on Twitter:

Quote:
Weeks before, Jennell Jaquays expressed that her 5 year long masterpiece, her reimagined Central Casting, be published. When things settle down, I will make sure that everyone gets to experience her final gift to the gaming world.
Later comment suggests a Kickstarter will be used to fund the project.

From Jennell Jaquay's wife Rebecca:

"Please post your fondest memories to celebrate the life of Jennell Jaquays"
