Default Backlash: Aging roll

How much would backlash: aging roll be worth?

I think it has the same issue as disadvantages like Terminally Ill. It is basically "Backlash: I'm going to retire this character after awhile". Unless you subvert the aging in which case it doesn't really disadvantage you much.

If we assume the character will stick around though...

Practically speaking you're basically paying character points to use the ability. If we assume that you always suffer a Backlash and it always results in losing 1 character point of abilities then it would reduce the cost of the ability to 1/5 (as per the rules for paying character points for abilities). I would use that as a guideline. If you effectively pay 1CP every other time, then reduce the value of the advantage to 2/5, if it happens about every third time, reduce it to 3/5, etc.

That's a good point. It's the same problem as Post-Combat Shakes.

If the aging is temporary then it could be framed as a special effect of "Backlash: Reduced stat, HT to resist". I'd probably average the cost of the different stat options to determine how much to pay for a random stat. Or if you have to do the full "roll HT for each stat" then probably just add all of the different options. You could use modifiers modifying modifiers to extend the duration. I don't know about making it stack over multiple uses; are backlash's normally cumulative for things that come in levels like the Pain irritating conditions? If not you could steal cumulative from affliction and apply it to the backlash via modifiers modifying modifiers. But the end result might be worth more as a limitation then it should probably really be.

Alternatively, if you can recover or "heal" the aging, then it could be framed as "costs years", which could be equivalent to HP or FP.

In my own games I price it as -20% for one month of aging or -50% for a year. All of this assumes the target doesn't have Unaging of course.
