Alright, I got the backpack vehicle statted as a character. In now:

That's speed, carrying capacity, etc equivalent to a TL 7 sedan, but it doesn't require fuel and it can provide about a 9-volt battery'd worth of power in the form of a cigarette lighter. It can also shape-shift down to the size of a large backpack (SM -2) and a weight of 9 lbs. That's all I'm requisitioning other than my standard stuff (weapons, body armor, and the Personal Force Field bracer).

Depends on what you each decide. On Jorin's world they might have believed that 88 mph was somehow special, in the same way that people used to believe that going above 30 mph would be fatal to Human life. Sam doesn't get the reference, and he's arguably the most 'normal' of the lot of you all.

I could rule that it gives Jacob the constant feeling of someone looking over his shoulder... I'm not going to be that nasty; Jacob doesn't get any rolls to resist Michael overhearing these voices, but also doesn't get anything directly negative (indirectly of course, Michael will be pushing for Jacob's next round of points to be spent getting his head rewired).

Because GURPS: Vehicles hasn't come out for Fourth Edition and that's the way I left it if nobody minds. Same stats as a sedan except for virtually unlimited range due to the lack of a need for fuel. Not fuel worth tracking for a single mission, at least.

I'm not sure quite what it says about me that when the word "sedan" comes up I think of sedan chairs rather than a type of car... On a similar thought, do not rely on my optimism when driving ground vehicles using default skills.

I have no issue with Jacob using character stats for a vehicle. It's mildly more familiar to me than vehicle stats, plus it does give more detail than a set of footnotes added on the end. Can someone please confirm that Shrinking affects mass/ weight as well (it doesn't matter hugely, since I'm not actually putting a points limit on this; it's just for reference and plausibility purposes since affecting the mass like that should add a lot more to the cost than having something that is solidly built but keeps the same mass).

Also, I don't think anyone has a suitable mechanic skill for fixing this when Jacob crashes it with his defaults-from-Pilot! skill. Just saying...

This means that (assuming I checked the right version of everyone's sheets) Jacob has an effective 7, Michael 11 or 9 depending on specialization (I don't see it listed on the sheet, so it's probably an assumed Automobile, making it 11), John 10, and Jorin 7.

Michael drives cars (actually, he prefers large vans), not semi's.

driving (automobile) really ought to default to Pilot! at least at -5, and probably -4 or -3.

Is this in reference to the default to Heavy Wheeled? Because I actually got 9 from your IQ, figuring that's what we'd end up with regardless of specialization unless that specialization was Automobile (which it seems to be, so you're our driver)

I didn't check supers. On my sheet i included a footnote when I made it: Pilot! covers Pilot and all specializations, Driving and all specializations, and Bicycling.

Summarising this lot:
  • Jacob doesn't actually have any skill for driving, as such.
  • I'm listing (automobile) as the generic option for the Driving skill, and I can't be bothered with distinctions on types and specialisations thereof within that; a car is a car. A tank is not, so that's different.
  • I will accept Pilot defaulting to Driving at about -6. They are very different: one is in the air (if you're doing it properly), the other is on the ground (likewise). The default of Driving to Pilot would be heavier, because at least the Pilot is meant to spend bits of time on the ground.

There is nothing to stop Jacob from insisting on driving; your understanding of his competence is based on his ability to role-play being convincing. If someone wants to make a suitable roll for it somewhere that's also fine (though influence rolls are recommended against between players by Basic Set).

I really need to go through everyone's sheets with a hefty degree of cynicism in the near future... Yes, you did include this note, and if I had been paying proper attention I'd have commented on it. Unfortunately such notes aren't a regular part of these sheets, so I skimmed over it. Mea culpa. To clarify however... I might accept a Civilian Vehicles! skill as covering cars, bikes, and very light aircraft (with an option of the Military Vehicles! skill and similar as well), however Pilot!, being based on a skill with that many options to it, cannot be counted as including ground vehicles.

When I get back I will make a proper effort to look over these sheets. In the mean time can everyone please repost or give me a link to the latest copy of their character sheet so that I know what I'm meant to be looking at. Sorry for the confusion.
