Huh, okay then I'll ay that she entered Starfleet Academy at age 16 and graduated at age 20. After that she went to Medical Branch school for 3.5 years, then a 6 month cadet cruise - that puts her at 24 years old.

Sally Kellerman or Dr. Dehner has a height of 5',10" - so estimate her GURPS Strength is an [B]11.
According to Dehner's on-screen starship personnel record, Dr. Dehner is 21 years old (at the time of the episode), weighs 116 lbs, and is 5'2". (Date of birth 1089.5, for whatever that's worth.)

As for her on-screen ESP ratings, her ability is expressed in "superiority at 'guessing games,' reading cards, et cetera." She was writing a thesis on the subject of ESP, which was the reason she had been at the Aldebaron colony. This seems to me no stronger than a quirk. As she says, "flashes of insight." She can't control it, and it left her vulnerable to the energy barrier. It should not rise to the level of a GURPS "power."

I used to have that, then it stopped working and I wasn't able to get it fixed (possibly due to moving the files to a better hard drive and needing a new motherboard, but that may have been a separate incident as this was a number of years ago), I'm not sure how many computers I've switched to since then, and being unemployed, I'm not getting a new copy.

EDIT: This reads as angrier than intended. Sorry about that.

Genetic manipulation is specifically allowed in-canon, but only for therapeutic purposes. In particular, it's needed for the more aggressive forms of DNA repair following exposure to high levels of radiation and to reverse the effects of artificial aging or acceleration-induced mutation.

Where United Earth/UFP authorities have a problem with genetic engineering is when a) it's done illegally, especially if it's done on the orders of the person benefiting from the changes or their caregivers (and usually because it's done very badly), b) it's used to augment a naturally-occurring genome to provide unnatural new functions beyond those normally available to "natural" members of the subject's ancestral species.

That said, there have been a few cases in canon where the Federation has specifically allowed genetic augmentation (e.g., the Moab IV colony and the Darwin Genetic Research Station), albeit under controlled, isolated conditions and possibly without proper oversight.

My apologies. No condescension intended. Of all the female guest stars in TOS, I've always thought that Dr. Dehner got particularly short shrift, so I think it's very cool that you're trying to recreate her for your game.

If you're trying to build an NPC on a budget, however, it's always a challenge to design a competent psi character that doesn't have serious physical or mental faults, hence my suggestions for point shaving.

Again, no offense intended if I offered unwelcome or redundant advice.

Folks - the whole 'genetic manipulation' tangent has no relevance to making this NPC.

She is a tad taller than usual, maybe stronger than an average woman and has had Starfleet training - thats all.

Okay,...now getting back to the GCA.

I now send her to "Medical" school by giving her the "Medical Doctor (Prime Directive)" template - remembering later to add Psychology (Human) to her skills list at a decent level.

After that I now choose or modify Advantages and Disadvantaes....

Greetings...again,

How do I do that 'save', cut & paste trick to post her in the forums?

About ten to twelve years ago I knew how to do that - but I've forgotten the technique.

I have her character sheet finished and want to post her.

1) Copy the text you want to post to the forums from your word processor/HTML editor.
2) Post a blank reply to an existing thread on the SJG forums.
3) Paste the text into that reply and hit "Submit Reply."

The transfer process removes most of the unwanted formatting.

If you want to see how your text will look once it's posted, hit the "Preview Post" option before you click "Submit Reply" and fix problems as needed.

Don't worry if the transferred text looks a bit ragged. As long as it's mostly readable, people interested in the topic will overlook minor formatting errors. You can also clean up any mistakes or formatting errors by editing your post (using the Edit button) once you've posted it.

"Code" (the Hash Tag Button on the forum thread screen) and "Spoiler" {spoiler} . . .{/spoiler} tags are useful if you've got a lot of data to post that might distract from overall readability. Replace curly brackets ({ }) with straight brackets ([ ]) to get the spoiler tags to work properly.

Finally had our long delayed game session Sunday afternoon.

They didn't 'hire' her. Thought she was 'too young' for their ship.

I roleplayed the three remaining candidates for the job as NPCs during the game session.
They didn't choose Dr. Dehner.

If an Admin wants to close this thread I am very okay with that...
