Using Buildings as Weapons
Let's say a character has a ST of 45, 25 of which are bought with the Super Effort enhancement, giving an enhanced ST of 30,020. This means the character can lift 9 kilotons, or 180,000,000 lbs.- enough to lift 2 and a half Empire State Buildings. (As an aside, he can punch for 9,009d + 27,027 damage with Power Blow). How would one go about swinging a skyscraper (or other building)? Would it be an improvised weapon, probably with Two-Handed Axe/Mace skill? If so, what would the damage add be?)

Re: Using Buildings as Weapons
Real world physics or comic physics? In the real world, the building would fall apart before hitting anything even if the character had enough mass and leverage to to swing it.

Comic physics, in this case. Let's assume the building doesn't fall apart.

Re: Using Buildings as Weapons
Supers doesn't really answer this question directly.
But what you CAN do is some quick and dirty math SUPER DUPER dirty, treating it as a big solid block. ST Requirement = Square Root(Weight * 15) damage = ST Requirement / 5 sw + damage cr Being able to lift two Empire State Buildings doesn't mean you can swing one, but smaller buildings should be possible =) Example: Empire State Building Weighs: 730000000 pounds (365,000 tons). ST Requirement = ~104642 Damage = ~20928 So Sw + 20928 crush

Re: Using Buildings as Weapons
Didn't Gladiator use a strategy like that in Fantastic Four #250 (or thereabouts)?

Re: Using Buildings as Weapons
Something worth pointing out though (which since comic physics, feel free to ignore), is that weapons typically need a lot more ST than just what it takes to carry them.
Lets look at a Greatsword (both it and the building have a mostly even weight distribution and will require two hands) the Greatsword has a weight of 7, but requires ST 12 to be able to use without penalties. Since ST 12 gives you a basic Lift of 29, that's close to needing 4 times the weight in Basic Lift. So even this super strong guy should be taking some penalties when trying to smack someone with the building. |
