Acrobatic is also used for the instant stand move.

I run a regular arena, and after crunching a few numbers it really doesn't look like dual weapon wielding is the way to go.

Caveat: These are 50 point characters with largely realistic rules, including Harsh Realism for Unarmed Fighters. Dual weapons may become more viable at higher point totals.

Code:
            Loser
Winner   W&S   2H   DW   U  T
W&S       3     8    4   0  15
2H        6     8   10   3  27
DW        3     4    3   0  10
U         1     4    0   5  10
T         13   24   17   8  -
Key:
W&S = Weapon and Shield
2H  = Two Handed Weapon
DW  = Dual Weapons
U   = Unarmed
T   = Totals
Summary:
Weapon and Shield won 15 fights and lost 13
Two Handed Weapon won 27 fights and lost 24
Dual Weapon won 10 fights and lost 17
Unarmed won 10 fights and lost 8
Total of 62 fights

Summary if you don't count duels of a type against itself:
W&S wins 12 fights and loses 10
2H wins 19 fights and loses 16
Dual Weapon wins 7 fights and loses 14
Unarmed wins 5 fights and loses 3
Total of 43 fights

Dual Weapon fighting is the clear loser, inferior in wins even to unarmed fighting. That is probably a fluke due to the fantastic luck of our main resident unarmed fighter, but still.

I'm surprised at the results for unarmed even without Harsh Realism for Unarmed Fighters. . .but with it I'm shocked. Can you give some examples of what tactics were used? Dual weapons should still be more favorable than unarmed using the Harsh Realism rules.

No penalty for dodge?

Let's see.

First Fight.

The unarmed fighter faces a foe with a maul and mail armor. Mauler opens with a telegraphic attack that unarmed fighter easily parries. Mauler rarely uses Deceptive Attack and never tries to parry. Ends up getting his leg crippled by kicks, then unarmed fighter grabs and kicks mauler into unconsciousness.

Second Fight

Staff wielding giant beats the tar out of unarmed guy in a couple of rounds.

Third Fight

A cage match against a one legged guy with a polearm. Unarmed guy wins swiftly and decisively.

Fourth Match

Unarmed guy fights sword and shield guy. Sword and shield guy cripples his own arm with a critical miss right off the bat. Unarmed guy proceeds to demolish him.

Fifth Match

End of a tournament which was previously announced to be unarmed. Unarmed guy is here with another sword and shield guy who gets pounded without his armaments.

Sixth Match

Unarmed guy (kicking karate specialist) faces judo specialist. Kicks judo specialist into unconsciousness.

Seventh Match

Unarmed guy vs. heavily armored two handed sword wielder. Two handed sword guy Waits until unarmed guy enters CC, gets walloped in his unarmored face for his trouble.

Final Match

Unarmed guy vs. a different heavily armored two handed sword wielder. Long fight but eventually the swordsman stabs unarmed guy in the vitals and then hits his neck arteries twice. Unarmed guy expires with 6-2 record.

Did I see the unarmed guy use a cross parry vs a Maul in the early rounds, fending off 13pts of damage? One can do that and not have two broken arms? Even with Harsh Realism engaged?

Yes. Parrying weapons is only a -3, even if they're great huge mauls.

There's a weight issue too. One simply can't parry certain weapons, though the weight limit is fairly high.

True, but mauls are only 12 lbs. You only need a ST of 8 to block that without going over your Basic Lift.

Huh. I would challenge anyone to block, by hand, a blow from my construction-worker friend swinging a 12 lb. sledgehammer and walk away with even one arm intact.

But rules are rules, and this obeys them.
