Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
So.. The idea is to have IQ that variates based on the complexity of the computer that an AI/Upload is currently running on.
So, for example, normally an AI could run on a complexity 5 computer with 10 IQ. However, if allowed, it could leap onto a large complexity 7 mainframe and raise it's IQ to 14. If it needed to hide, it could compact itself into a small complexity 3 computer, reducing it's IQ to 6. I'm just not entirely certain how to stat this up, however. IQ bought with limitations? |

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
I would buy the best possible IQ (either based on what the AI program is capable of, or the highest complexity computer is will ever realistically have access to) at full price, and Perk (Can reduce IQ to run on lower complexity computers).

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
Just say it works like that. The AI has a maximum IQ, that you bought, but circumstances can lower it, just like a human's effective IQ can be lowered by getting drunk, losing sleep, or getting hit by Sex Appeal. That the AI can't put a full power copy of itself on a limited system isn't a limitation of the AI. It's a limitation of the system.

Quote:
Example: IQ 20 (Limited by Complexity, -23%). Maximum IQ on a Complexity 20 computer is 20. Complexity 20 is the highest computer complexity in the setting. It runs on a Complexity 10 computer 99.5% of the time, and so its' IQ is reduced from 20 down to 10 99.5% of the time. |

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
I would consider taking alternate form, between big, clunky, but smart, and small but not so smart.

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
Remember that the benefit of being able to have a High IQ is balanced by the requirement for the big machine.
Is that dependancy? Increased Life support? maintainance? all three? depends how you do it, and they will cost differently depending on how hard it is to get the good computers (yes 2 million dollars but on the market is hard IMO). |

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
Just buying the whole amount and then using the perk seems the easiest..
After all, it's hardly a disadvantage.. |

Re: Variable, Complexity-Limited IQ
So, 'nother question.
How would one handle cinematic combat between two AIs? |
