Re: GURPS Uplift
Yes, we have, and while the seventhsanctum generator is a good seed for some cultural info or base ur-species, it doesn't hold a match to what the GURPS alien generator does.

Re: GURPS Uplift
As it turns out, the dolphin-uplift origin story IS NOT set in the Uplift milieu! It has been incorporated into Brin's next novel, Existence. Which is set in a different, less space-opera universe.
Another chunk of the book, the novella Seasteading, is available online in a few places. Brin has a blog / discussion group where he might answer questions more speedily than the mailing list: http://www.davidbrin.blogspot.com/ GURPS Uplift was more work than my master's thesis and didn't make me a millionaire.

it'll be good enough. :) This David Brin love-fest is really making me want to read his books. Right now I'm plowing through Niven's Known Space & have to hit Mass Effect next though. You may not be a millionaire stefanj, but a GURPS book sounds like a very respectable resume bullet. :-) |

Re: GURPS Uplift
Pick up Startide Rising. The only must-read of the series.

Re: GURPS Uplift
*nodnod* Then if you're inclined, read The Uplift War. Then you can go back to read Sundiver, because for being the "first" book in the Earthclan series, it really didn't do a good job explaining the situation. Startide and Uplift War are excellent reads.

The second trilogy should have been cut down to one or two books. There is a huge build up in the first book that ends in a cliffhanger and the second two simply do not do it justice. Interesting world... interesting details about the races... but ultimately a disappointing conclusion. However... if you are looking to a resolution of what is set up in Startide, you do indeed get it in spades. |

Well... not really. We never did find out what Herbie was.

Any chance the notes from this adventure still exist? It would be epic! Thank you and congratulations for your works, especially GURPS Uplift. |
