The magnificent hat is truly magnificent... for the wearer.
Can the wearer of the MH bear the effect of a curse from a card like "lucky Talisman"? It says the effect is passed to the person next to you, NOT the curse...
Probably a similar situation would be be income tax was plays on someone else or New Edition Rules.

The hat also does indeed protect you against curses that hit everyone so they are protected against Income Tax and New Edition Rules. Everyone then rolls to see what unlucky player gets hit twice.
