Podliforku
A ramshackle town/port with a notorious reputation for piracy, Podliforku has little in the way of local government apart from a local Mafia-type Thieves' Guild which employs most of the pirates. Not surprisingly, there is a lot of money and black market goods in this town, which attracts merchants and dwarves from all around. However no merchant admits to dealing with folk in this city.

Thargi Swamp
A noxious place, home to many fell creatures, the Thargi Swamp unfortunately straddles the Trassy and Lesser Trassy Rivers, which serve as vital arteries of trade for the Duchies of Dran and Bolors. Numerous reptilian and invertebrate vermin make the swamp dangerous.
The Fort: Thus Dran has built a fort on the Lesser Trassy, known simply as "Fort Quag", reflecting the muddy conditions there. The Duchy is continually trying to find personnel to man it as conditions are so bad and monsters dangerous. At any one time there will be 4d6+16 32-35 pt human heroes here plus the Fort Commander, Selvados, a human martial wizard and cousin to the duke (ST 12 DX 15(14) IQ 16 weapon Staff of Power (2), wears stone flesh necklace & Cloth armour(5). Has a 5 pt Strength Battery and 4 2 dice exploding gems. Spells: megahex sleep, long distance telepathy, staff of power, lightning, giant rope, hammertouch, explosive gem, summon bear, sleep, detect enemies, slow movement / literacy, charisma, tactics) and his lieutenant, Talgar the Woodsman (ST 13 DX 14(12) IQ 11 weapon bastard sword (2+1 or 3-2) or longbow (1+2), wears leather armour(2).Talents: naturalist, woodsman, animal handling, alertness, tracking).Talgar also has a trained War Dog (ST 10 DX 14 IQ 6 bite(1+1),1 pt fur), which will attack any who attack his master. Selvados and Talgar are both loyal to Dran, though there is a spy in the camp for the Duchy of Bolors, one Bakarat the Bold-human mercenary (ST 11 DX 14(12) IQ 10 weapon spear(1 or 1+1) & boomerang(2), wears leather armour(2) Talents: thrown weapons, horsemanship, engineer). Bakarat tends the fort's ballistas, of which there are 4.

Hi Cas,
I confess I've forgotten what was on that website of mine. Want to give me the titles?

Warm regards, Rick.

What would the formula be to roughly estimate the number of buildings needed to supply a town population of 2000? This would be homes, social buildings, manufacturing, etc.

This would be a medieval town.

How about a desert town?

Assume most families lives where they work. Family size would average 5, might be higher or lower but something like that. So a town of 2000 would need slightly less than 400 buildings of all types. There would obviously be some larger structure that employ more than one family and there would be structure that serve as only dwellings, often multi family dwellings but some would be single family dwellings for the upper class.

That would likely work out still to something like 400 buildings.

This is an attempt to classify establishments rating with symbols.

Some game systems provide quality references for eating and sleeping establishments as well as stables.

Does TFT already have something to rate these?
What system do you use to for the GameMaster to rate the establishment?

Michelin stars are a rating system used by the red Michelin Guide to grade restaurants on their quality. ... According to the Guide, one star signifies "a very good restaurant", two stars are "excellent cooking that is worth a detour", and three stars mean "exceptional cuisine that is worth a special journey". - Wikipedia

But then you need to rate the lower levels too.

Would something like this work?
Food
N/A........No food is served
*...........Terrible or deadly - Tastes atrocious or causes illness
**..........Poor food - not really nutritious meal or just snacks
***........OK food - Generally nutritious if not tasty
****......Very Good food - Meal is appetizing, filling and nutritious
*****.....Exceptional Cuisine - Classy, healthy, good atmosphere

Drink
N/A........No alcohol is served
*...........Terrible or deadly - Tastes atrocious or causes illness
**..........Poor drink - Mostly flat or sour, bad atmosphere
***........OK drink - Good, solid drinks. Small variety.
****......Very Good drink - Wide selection of drinks, local and imports
*****....Exceptional drink - Classy, Delicious, good atmosphere

Lodging
N/A........No Lodgings
*...........Terrible or deadly - fleapit straw on floor, risk illness &/or robbery
**.........Poor accommodation - Main room with beds, probably poor sleep
***.......OK rooms - Small main room, some private room, your risk
****......Very Good room - Private rooms, good service, somewhat protected
*****.....Royalty rooms - Stately, protected, great atmosphere & Expensive

Stables
N/A........No Stables - Use nearby ones or tie horse to post
*...........Terrible - Just a rundown barn with muck straw and bad feed, no stablehand
**.........Poor Stable - Horses show signs of neglect, stalls messy, slothy stablehand.
***.......OK stable - Normal stables with normal care
****......Very Good stable - Clean stalls, clean water and oats, experienced stable boy, tack cleaned/repaired
*****.....Royalty stable - Fit for a prince’s horse

I really like Midkemia’s Cities (http://www.midkemia.com) references to Accomodations, but that is other IP.

Do you rate your inns?

If so how do you do it?

Hi Cas,
The Thorsz stuff is not near the Dutchy of Dran. I'll start a new thread.

Thank you very much for sending me that link.

Warm regards, Rick.

I always assumed you meant "west" rather than "east" here, since the map shows Kel west of Dran. I also assume "Oran" is a new typo here, which should read "Dran"?
