Default [DF] A Good 5-Point Talent With Brawling and Intimidation

I'd like to create a reasonable five-point talent that includes Brawling and Intimidation. It's for a savage Dungeon Fantasy species much like canonical orcs and goblins. The racial template includes Gluttony and Bully. As such, the species spends most of its time fighting over food and posturing for dominance in the hierarchy.

In true DF fashion, I might just include only those two skills even though up to six can be added to a five-point talent.

Any skill suggestions to include this talent? Any appropriate names?

Thanks!

Well, two skill racial talents really feel like something that's there only to make the race weaker. Annoying the munchkins might appeal to the GM, but if you have munchkins in your group, it won't make the game any more enjoyable. At the very least I'd add one extra skill and two wouldn't hurt either. Forced Entry could be a good fit as could be Axe/Mace (especially if you want to go with a three-skill talent). As for the name, how about Mr. Bash?

Fittest Survivor

Covers Boxing, Brawling, Filch, Holdout, Intimidation, and Wrestling.
Benefit: Survivors get a bonus to Reaction Rolls from bullies and starving people.

Fittest Survivors are adept at survival in a rough social environment. They can steal and hide food, force others to give up food through threats of violence, and commit violence with much skill.

I wanted to fit Kiai in there, so that Fittest Survivors could use group shouts to further intimidate people, but Boxing and Filch just made more sense.

If you want to make the talent a little less refined, drop Boxing for Forced Entry.

"Fittest survivor." I like that. What about Streetwise?

As for Streetwise, I would really expect that one to be centred around the Streetwise skill. Even then it would be a bad idea to name a talent after a skill. We also already have an official Street-Smart and Street-Smarts talent.

As for the skills suggested by mlangsdorf. I really think lumping the three non-exotic unarmed skills together in a talent is breaking even DF munchkinism. Boxing is not usually a very rough-and-tumble skill as is filch. For something that helps you survive on the streets through sheer menace I would use Axe/Mace, Brawling, Forced Entry, Intimidation and Urban Survival. Adding another skill would make this way to powerful, though. I'd might even drop Axe/Mace, but it makes a nice intuitive combo with Forced Entry.

There is a RAW Talent called Tough Guy from various 4e books that benefits Fast Talk, Forced Entry, Intimidation, Shadowing, and Streetwise. We added Brawling to it for the same cost as a house rule in one of our recent games, without breaking anything (besides most of the people and things my PC attacked unarmed).

Urban Survival doesn't fit the species nomadic, tribal nature, but Survival might.

What bout Scrounging?

^Read Scrounging. Pass on it.

By the way, they do have Cast Iron Stomach, if that matters.

Tracking to find prey, Stealth to close the distance. Survival to forage for food.

Fittest Survivor: Brawling, Intimidation, Stealth, Survival (Any), Tracking. 5 points/level.

Your latest write-up sounds good to me. I had laboured under the wrong impression that you wanted something civilised, but this works well for a brutal barbarian species, doubly so if it's limited just to that species.

Yeah, I was suffering from a particularly strong case of insomnia as I posted all of the above. Made the OP at 4 a.m., then came back after restlessness at 7 a.m. Each time, I could barely keep my head from hitting the keyboard.

I'm not a big fan of talents in Fourth Edition. They just seem like free points to me with little justification for receiving them. That's one reason I posted. I figured if it passed the forum's inspection, then I can allow it.

Otherwise, I'm fine with just Brawling, Intimidation and Survival. It's honestly just meta-gaming to add more.
