I remember, back in the early days of the Internet, a GURPS buddy and I talked to a woman online who said she was a vampire (I don't think she was serious). We asked her what kind? She said she didn't know, and we went through GURPS Blood Types to pin down what type she was. I'm sure that's not the originally planned use for the book, but all three of us had a lot of fun with it, and my friend and I did the same thing with several other people online.

Dinosaurs are good. At least from a distance.

Even though it’s a 3rd ed. book, Dinosaurs is a really good single-volume reference on the subject of prehistoric life, from a gamer’s point of view, at the time it was written. Converting to 4th would probably mostly be a matter of setting up a spreadsheet to recalculate ST and then derive attack damage from that. Any gamer who’s also enough of a dino geek would probably appreciate it.

(Blood Types Is really good too.)

It probably helps that some of the work was already done for GURPS Big Lizzie, though how much that helps, I'm not sure.

Worth noting that if you're interested more in dinosaur fiction than realism, Lands Out of Time has a lot of dino templates for 4e.
