Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Torque, yes it can, but Camel & both triplanes were a single engined plane light in power. WW2 planes were ever increasing in power making take-offs in particular difficult. The F4u was so extreme it killed new pilots on contact. B-26 not only had torque it had no wings, it could kill old pilots on contact.

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Please give me some more feedback :)
Have anyone tried it out yet ? Anyway, here are some more planes for a Pacific campaign around 1942 (say Midway), I've also scrapped the idea of trying to calculate Hnd and added my own ratings. Grumman F4F-3 "Wildcat" Fighter This version lacked self-sealing fuel tanks and cockpit armour, aswell as folding wings. It was however lighter and faster than the F4F-4. HP: 70 HT: 12fx DR: 4 Cockpit DR: N/A Hnd/SR: +2/2 Speed/aAccel: 330mph/8 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 4x Browning M2 (wings) Grumman F4F-4 "Wildcat" Fighter This upgraded version was slower and heavier, it also added cockpit armour and self-sealing fuel tanks. These upgrades decreased its overall manoeuvrability but it had more guns to make up for the loss. HP: 70 HT: 12f DR: 4 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Sides +10, Back +20, Top +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: +1/2 Speed/aAccel: 319mph/7 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 6x Browning M2 (wings) Douglas SBD-2 "Dauntless" Dive-Bomber Known as the "Slow But Deadly"; the SBD had a low top speed but could take enough punishment to get through enemy defences and drop its deadly cargo. HP: 75 HT: 8f DR: 5 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +10, Sides +20, Back +30, Top +10 Gunner DR: Front +10, Sides +10, Back +20, Under +10 Hnd/SR: +1/2 Speed/aAccel: 250mph/10 SM: +5 Crew: 2 Weapons: 2x Browning M2 (cowl), 1x Browning 1919 (dorsal), up to 2.250lbs of ordnance Grumman TBF-1C “Avenger” Torpedo-Bomber This slow and cumbersome torpedo-bomber proved it could take a lot of punishment and deliver a mighty warhead that could cripple even the biggest of targets. HP: 70 HT: 9f DR: 5 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +10, Sides +20, Back +40, Top +10, Under +20 Gunner DR: Front +40, Sides +10, Back +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: 0/2 Speed/aAccel: 267mph/4 SM: +6 Crew: 3 Weapons: 2x Browning M2 (wings), 1x Browning M2 (dorsal), 1x Browning 1919 (ventral tunnel), up to 2.500lbs of ordnance (often a Mark 13 Torpedo) Lockheed P-38D “Lightning” Fighter/Interceptor This version entered service in 1941 and only 36 planes were made. It packed a punch but suffered from agility problems. HP: 90 HT: 7f DR: 6 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +10, Sides +20, Back +20, Under +10 Hnd/SR: -2/2 Speed/aAccel: 390mph/8 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 4x Browning M2 (nose), 1x M-4 Cannon (nose) |

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Mitsubishi A6M2 “Zeke/Zero” Fighter
This fighter took the Allies completly by surprise, it was faster and more agile compared to other early-war fighters. It had its disadvantages however; lacking self-sealing fuel tanks and protection for its pilot. HP: 50 HT: 7fx DR: 3 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: N/A Hnd/SR: +3/3 Speed/aAccel: 333mph/9 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 2x Type 97 (nose), 2x Type 99 Cannons (wings) Aichi D3A1 “Val” Dive-Bomber This was an excellent aircraft which had a very good manoeuvrability and was often used as a fighter because of this, when it had dropped its ordnance that is. HP: 70 HT: 9fx DR: 5 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: N/A Hnd/SR: +3/2 Speed/aAccel: 241mph/11 SM: +5 Crew: 2 Weapons: 2x Type 97 (cowl), 1x Type 92 (dorsal) and up to 1.103lbs of ordnance Nakajima B5N2 “Kate” Torpedo-Bomber A torpedo-bomber that couldn't take much punishment before going down, but proved to be deadly against ships nevertheless. It had a low top speed but good manoeuvrability. HP: 70 HT: 9fx DR: 2 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: N/A Hnd/SR: +2/2 Speed/aAccel: 235mph/8 SM: +7 Crew: 3 Weapons: 2x Type 97 (cowl), 1x Type 92 (dorsal) and up to 2000lbs of ordnance (often a Type 91 Torpedo) Mitsubishi G4M1 Model 11 ”Betty” Medium Bomber This was the early-war medium bomber used by the Japanese. It had proven its mettle in China and again showed what it could do against the new enemy. HP: 100 HT: 8fx DR: 2 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: N/A Hnd/SR: +1/2 Speed/aAccel: 265mph/6 SM: +7 Crew: 7 Weapons: 4x Type 92 (1 nose, 2 waist, 1 top), 1x Type 99 cannon (tail) and up to 2.200lbs of ordnance Last edited by PPoS; 01-11-2009 at 01:24 PM. |

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
And here are a few aircrafts for some early-war dogfighting in Europe.
Messerschmitt Bf-109E-4 “Emil” Fighter This aircraft (the Me-109, not the E model) served as the main fighter for the German Luftwaffe through the whole war. It had a comparable performance to other fighters at the early days of the war, and was often piloted by experienced pilots with many campaigns behind them. HP: 65 HT: 9f DR: 3 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Sides +10, Back +20, Top +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: +1/2 Speed/aAccel: 350mph/9 SM: +4 Crew: 1 Weapons: 2x MG17 (cowl), 2x MG-FF (wings) Messerschmitt Bf-110C Heavy Fighter Designed as a strategic-fighter, the Bf-110 took a pounding during the Battle of Britain and its role was soon to be changed into night fighting and ground-attack. HP: 85 HT: 7f DR: 5 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +5, Sides +10, Back +15, Top +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: -1/2 Speed/aAccel: 348mph/6 SM: +5 Crew: 2 Weapons: 4x MG17 (nose), 2x MG-FF cannons (nose), 1x MG15 (dorsal) Junkers Ju-87B “Stuka” Dive-Bomber The famous “Stuka” proved to be excellent airborne artillery for the panzers during their blitz through Europe. But during the Battle of Britain however it fell prey for the fast British fighters doing a job it was not suppose to do. HP: 77 HT: 9f DR: 3 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit/Gunner DR: Sides +10, Back +20, Top +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: 0/2 Speed/aAccel: 242mph/7 SM: +5 Crew: 2 Weapons: 2x MG17 (wings), 1x MG15 (dorsal), up to 660lbs of ordnance Junkers Ju-88A Medium Bomber The Ju-88 served as a tactical-bomber during the early-war period but after the appalling loss in the skies over Great Britain its role changed to tank-busting on the Eastern Front, and night fighting over the Fatherland. This specific medium bomber could actually dive-bomb if necessary. HP: 112 HT: 8f DR: 8/15 Top & Under (Body/Wings all facings) Pilot DR: Sides +10, Back +20, Top +10, Under +10 Hnd/SR: -2/2 Speed/aAccel: 292mph/4 SM: +6 Crew: 4 Weapons: 1x MG131 (nose), 1x MG81 (front, pilot), 1x MG81 (Cockpit, firing upwards), 1x MG81 (cockpit, firing downwards) and up to 4.420lbs of ordnance Last edited by PPoS; 01-11-2009 at 01:26 PM. |

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Hawker Hurricane Mk IA Fighter
This excellent fighter was durable and fast, however it was living in the shadow of the more famous Spitfire. But the Hurricane was actually the fighter that scored the most victories against the Luftwaffe. HP: 70 HT: 9f DR: 4 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +10, Sides +10, Back +20, Under +10 Hnd/SR: +2/2 Speed/aAccel: 321mph/13 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 8x Browning Mk II (wings) Supermarine Spitfire Fighter This gorgeous aircraft is easily recognized not only by its name; but also for its elliptical wings and sleek lines. It had excellent manoeuvrability and good speed which made it a fearsome foe. HP: 66 HT: 9 DR: 4 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +10, Sides +10, Back +20, Under +10 Hnd/SR: +3/2 Speed/aAccel: 356mph/13 SM: +5 Crew: 1 Weapons: 8x Browning Mk II (wings) Last edited by PPoS; 01-11-2009 at 01:26 PM. |

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Ok, I just can’t stop doing this. Here’s two more aircrafts that can make for other interesting scenarios.
Macchi C.200 “Saetta” (Lightning) Fighter This Italian fighter saw its first action at Malta in 1940. It was lightly armed (and, at first, not liked by its pilots) but had excellent maneuverability and could match up against more modern fighters. HP: 65 HT: 10f DR: 3 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +20, Back +30 Hnd/SR: +3/2 Speed/aAccel: 312mph/7 SM: +4 Crew: 1 Weapons: 2x Mod 31 (cowl) Dewoitine D.520 Fighter This French fighter came close to matching the German Me-109 (unlike the other French aircrafts) but couldn’t be produced in enough numbers to stem the tides of German planes. HP: 67 HT: 12f DR: 3 (Body/Wings all facings) Cockpit DR: Front +20, Back +20, Under +20 Hnd/SR: +1/2 Speed/aAccel: 332mph/7 SM: +4 Crew: 1 Weapons: 4x MAC 1934 M39 (wings), 1x Hispano-Suiza HS 404 cannon (nose) Last edited by PPoS; 01-11-2009 at 01:26 PM. |

Re: Dogfighting Rules (Suggestions are welcome!)
Do you take requests? I'd love to see a treatment of the Horten Ho-IX. It would definitely be a welcome addition to many "what if" scenarios of late WWII.
