How will he spend the time walking through the desert? And how will he spend the rest stop?

Yes he'll look over his shoulder*.

He spends the time hiking trying to keep up for the most part. He's not used to hiking and is of only average health. If he does have some spare breath he'll try to get to know the people a bit better.

He will definitely try to get to know them a bit better while they rest. As well as how big Morna and Torlia are and what they're like. What their families are like. Stuff.

The ball is mounted on top of a box of some sort -- also made of glass and mental. Whatever it is flows from Arca, through his hands, into the device, and somewhere far off.

Actually, Alexander can see where its going. The ball shows an image of a different part of this landscape -- almost from a bird's eye view.

"Just scouting ahead" Acra mutters. "I'll let you know if I find anything interesting. Just a couple of ant streams so far."

OCC: another post is coming. This note is for my benefit as much as yours, so I remember to do it.

"That's good to hear. So about how much further now?"

[ericthered]

"We leave bad land tomorrow. Maybe get to Morna day after, maybe tomorrow."

The two cities don't have much to do with each other, Alexander gathers. Both are in hilly country higher in elevation than the lands covered by the ants. Both are "Big enough". When he pushes for numbers, he's told both are over 50,000 people, which seems to be considered big.

This crew is from Morna, and they're happy to get back. They seem to be a little awkward about why they're going through the ant-lands instead of around it.

The group has an odd little dynamic. Arca is in charge, which seems a little colonial, given that he's the only human (or at least the only one without a bone ring), but he seems to defer to Nauval quite a lot when making decisions. The Group is actually all related except for Arca.

Fauzan, the oldest, is the uncle of everyone else. He's quiet, but is the handiest of the bunch, with the exception of the device Arca used to scout. He's also the largest, though that's not saying much.

Nauval is the older than his brother Agus, and Reza, their cousin, is the youngest of all. Reza may not even be done growing. The lot of them seem to have been hired by Arca.

"Why go Torlia?" Is something Green will ask as they travel.

"Because Arca had business there. I don't know what it was."

Arca: "Oh, you know, keeping in touch with interests on the far side of the badlands. I have some contacts there."

[Poonbahbah]

"So are you a trader as well or something else? Either way it's always good to maintain good contacts."

[ericthered]

"I'm an agent of my family. They have some of their fortune from trade, yes."
