"So you've been unemployed for 30 years? Any particular reason why?" The man looks most displeased.

"So... do you have any ideas as to why you're the one who heard the mental disturbances first, as opposed to some of our men who are actually trained in mental effects?"

[crretin]

"I was unemployed for that long because all I knew how to do was be a soldier.... and I couldn't do much else with one arm."

"I'd assume it has something to do with what's happening to me currently. For some reason I can feel what others can't."

[ericthered]

"And you couldn't pick up anything else... I'm impressed already. Do you think you can pick up something now?"

"Interesting. That's we suspected. We're willing to hire you on a temporary basis, to see how you perform. You will be hired for consulting and security. We can get you considered an para-human refuge, replace your arm, and give you room and board for two months or the duration of the mission if longer. How does that sound?"

[crretin]

"I do believe I can, the main reason I couldn't before was that I couldn't make enough money to go back to college and I was still suffering with what happened there, I was still grieving over my fallen comrades and I was still having flashbacks."

"That sounds good actually."

[ericthered]

"sounds like our government is better than yours."

"Alright. There are several things we can do to replace it. I'll have Ariana set up living quarters, get you set up, and conect you with the team. She'll also start the paperwork for the replacement on the arm, including choices and what not. I understand you don't know any magic. I'm tempted to rectify that but it will take longer than we have you. I want you studying mind magic so that you can understand what's going on. There are some basics you'll be skipping though."

[crretin]

"Maybe our worlds have less in common than I first thought..."

"very well. Though I would like to heavily suggest regrowth. If there's nothing that can be done about my condition an implant might not come with me and would leave with a large wound when I hop again"

[ericthered]

OCC: actually, they're not. Its wishful thinking.

"Perhaps. The Mana Storm truly changed everything. It made us thing more about people and less about machines. Ariana will take care of that."

Ariana helps Jordan through a lot of paperwork. Some of it is about getting refuge status. Some of it is about the contract. Some of it is worker's comp, waiver of allowing magic to be used on him, ect, ect.

Regrowing the arm will take a good amount of money (not his, luckily), and be quite painful. Because they want him to be useful quickly, they decide to go with the fast way. Ariana describes it as "the worst pain a man can feel. We can't even use painkillers, they mess up the procedure."

Jordan is assigned a room with one of the Latrans, a younger fellow named James who seems to be obsessed with riffles. He is given a thick book on mind magic and told to read it, and given a place to read it at.

((Yeah I know, Jordan on the hand doesn't))

To Adrianna: "I'd imagine, but it's better than showing up in a strange place with an arm missing and a gaping wound where your shoulder should be..."

To James: "hey how's it going?"

He starts reading the text book for most of the day.

James acknowledges him, but thats all. He does through a glance at the should every so often.

The book is mostly on the theory of minds. It starts out by explaining a mystical relationship between energy and entropy, and about how mind magic is one of the few creative processes of the universe, because minds can work uphill against the laws of conservation.

It explains that there are three kinds of minds: mechanical mind, which include computers, automatic transmissions, and even some coin sorting machines, Living minds, which include even plants growing towards the sunlight, and magical minds, or demons. The book then talks about a lot of theory on manipulating, strengthening, and interfacing with a living mind.

I keep reading until I feel tired at which point I fall asleep.
