Character summary for Captain Moon Han Eul, the ship's Korean captain. Character sheet to follow once I have fixed the disads. Pending approval of this backstory, I will upload my character sheet w/ backstory to the Crew Roster. I can do it as a post or an attachment (at least I think I can do attachments. Maybe not as I've never tried here...).

Captain Moon was an rising star in he Terran navy. Trained as a Sensors/Commo officer, he demonstrated an intuitive, almost effortless grasp of naval strategy and starship handling. Rising quickly through the ranks, he was placed in command of a Richtoven class missile boat for the invasion of Nusku. While flying escort for the invasion fleet, he engaged a pair of Imperial boats closing on the fleet. Though he disabled them both, the fight severely damaged his own vessel. With power and computer systems failing, Moon faced a choice. Remain in space until rescue and hope no Imperial ships located them or attempt to land the stricken vessel. When a pair of fighters vectored towards him, he made a choice that haunts him to this day.

As the pilot took their ship into the atmosphere, a failing Gravitic tube* cause him to enter too fast. By the time Moon realized their mistake, it was too late. The wind forces sheared off a control surface, sending the ship into a flat spin from which it never recovered.

The crash site was near one of the main LZs for the invasion force, but the Marines were too late for Moon's crew. His pilot died in his arms hours before the marines could reach the crash site. The crash shattered 3 discs in Moon's back and he spent nearly a year in recovery.

Moon's back never fully recovered and neither did his conscience. Plagued by nightmares and survivor's guilt, he mustered out of the Terran Navy and joined the merchant marine, where he was assigned to the Hiawatha. The far more leisurely pace of merchant life has been a welcome break for Moon. The last 90 days have been placid, an amazing break. He hoped this would last, but somehow it seems unlikely...

Note, Moon is a traditional Korean, meaning he places his family name first when writing and saying his name. Calling him Captain Eul is right out. Obviously, the Vilani won't know that, but for the other PCs, just an FYI.

*A Gravitic tube serves the same function as a pitot tube on an airplane (though obviously it functions differently as there is no air in space). It detects g-forces acting on the vessel and feeds those to a computer which provides real-time telemetry and vector information for the ship, allowing the pilot track his speed and direction of movement accurately.

Default Captain Moon Han Eul, TSS Hiawatha

The Talent comes from ISW, basically it's a 'commanding a ship' talent. I marked cigars up from regular tobacco because they are substantially more expensive. If you'd rather I run that at the listed -5, I'll grab another 5 point disad to make up for it. Also, were quirks part of the disad limit or separate? At any rate...

[IC]A shorter man in a crisp, freshly pressed uniform with Asian features and broad shoulders stands sharply at attention before the mahogany desk at the Merchant Marine Offices on Nusku. "The Captain Moon, report as ordered, sir!"[/IC]

Quirks and Disads are separate, but both are totally optional.

Which makes me think, what would act would you people consider attrocious enough to merit the worst of reputation? I was thinking about having her (yea, I decided she's a woman) in command of a ship that destroyed a passenger liner full of civilians during the war. Do you all think that would be enough? Too much? Not enough?

I'm looking for the sort of action that would make people see her almost as a war criminal.

These are both very good ideas! I'm very interested to see what you finally settle on!

The bored-seeming official lazily returns a Captain's salute and says, "Yes, yes, by all means, feel free to report aboard and assist with the pre-launch checks and services. Isn't that what all of 'a' captains do?" Capt. Moon gets the distinct feeling that his speech pattern is being mocked.

If I may make an observation, it has been my experience that PbP games with more than 4 players tend to drag significantly due to posting delays. I'm hoping that we can keep this game moving along fairly briskly since we'll only have 3 people (4 counting myself) from which to await input.

But, having made that observation, it is possible I guess that some of the current players might prefer to trim their pc rosters to just one character, and in that case, room for Dorin and/or Rasimus could be opened. But sn0ball, Doulos05, and MisterJuan should absolutely feel no compulsion to give up a pc!

Re-Copying pc roster:

Officer #1 Sensors/Commo (Captain Moon Han Eul) -- doulos05
Officer #2 Pilot (First Officer, Commander Sharmila Singh) -- MisterJuan
Officer #3 Ship's Doctor (Dr. [Commander] Zübeyde Chevalier) -- sn0wball
Petty Officer #1 (Senior Chief ???) Specialist/Interpreter/Gunner(Turret #1) -- sn0wball
Petty Officer #2 (Chief ???) Steward-Purser/Cargo Master/Gunner(Turret #2) -- doulos05
Petty Officer #3 (Chief Kgosi Kwabena) Engineer/Mechanic -- MisterJuan

I've made sn0wball's Specialist/Interpreter/Gunner our Senior Chief, the highest ranking enlisted crewmember, to spread the rank around a little bit. I've also gone ahead and designated him to be the primary gunner, and doulos05's Chief to be back-up. Hope that's ok with both of you guys! (If not let me know.) Sn0wball's Doctor has the rank of Commander, but this is generally acknowledged to be a courtesy rank most of the time. As regards ship's operations, the recommendations of the Senior Chief would generally be followed over an order from the Ship's Doctor. THE RANKS STATED HERE DO NOT NECESSARILY HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH RANK PURCHASED AS AN ADVANTAGE. This is just to settle, mostly in my own mind, what title each character has. doulos05 has demonstrated a much better knowledge than I have of the "Rank" advantage in GURPS, and doubtless other players also have similar knowledge. I'm trying to spread the rank around among all players. That's why I changed our Senior Chief from MisterJuan's dude to sn0wball's dude. MisterJuan is the pilot, so he's always going to have something cool to do with Sharmila.

Captain Moon can be added to the Crew Roster of "The Hiawatha" [Hero Class] anytime you're ready, doulos05.

One way to deal with this is to encourage players to state plans ahead of time, so that in the event of someone being absent their character can "coast" for a bit on what they already said they were going to do.

However, I'm fine with just watching for now. I don't have a character statted up or even thought out yet anyway.
