For what it's worth, I agree with this assessment. I used the "wearable computers in 2011" factoid as the basis for the Murphy's Rule in the Transhuman Space issue of Pyramid (sorry, Phil!), and I needed to work very closely with artist Greg Hyland to come up with an interpretation and phrasing that couldn't be hand-waved away by saying, "SMarsh, what do you think iPhones are, you dummy?!"
