I'd suggest that the
Miracle should happen over several different areas, weakening major states, but not wiping out any major players.
Example: Take out most of the US southeast and a big swatch of the Rocky Mountain West, large sections of interior Asia (leaving Coastal China, India, Iran, and European Russia, untouched), chose the weakest and/or least interesting to you European states and they go, any parts of Africa, Latin America, or the Pacific that bore you, go too.

Shock, insecurity, greed, fear, and agressive defence of their assumed interests. Possibly war.

In the changed areas, explorers, scientists, and anthropologists. (Come on Lost World Civilisations!) In the unchanged areas, diplomats, spies, troubleshooters.

Reality quake caused by intertemporal experiments in a nearby world. That way the intertemporial explorers (from Crentrum or Reich-5) can show-up and cause misery later.
