I wanted to clarify a few questions about the card Annihilation. The card specifically states that the "target card must be in play when you use Annihilation on it." What constitutes a card being "in play". From the rules it seems very clear that any items affecting your character (class, race, items, permanent curses) are in play, as well as any monsters currently in combat (and any modifiers applied to them). What about a one-shot like Out to Lunch, or a GuaL card? This came to question when a player in my last game was one level from winning, and about to easily defeat a monster. Another player used Out to Lunch (which states that all monsters are discarded and the player in combat draws 2 treasures immediately) in order to prevent the game winning combat. The player in combat used Annihilation on the OTL card to ensure that his combat would be won, level gained, and game over. Is the OTL card "in play"?

It can also be used to annihilate a card as it's being played to make the card have no effect. The person in combat who used annihilation did so legally. Here's a link where Erik (MunchkinMan) confirms this. http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.p...00&postcount=4

As to what's obviously "in play." Items you are carrying (and therefore Steeds and Ships, if you're blending), Hirelings and their ilk, any Class/Race/Style/Accent/Training/Loyalty/Power/Origin you have, Half-Breed, Super Munchkin, Bilingual, and cards like that. There are probably some that I have missed, and very possibly more will be added as time goes on.
As to what's not in play, that might not be so obvious: Persistent curses (like Chicken On Your Head or Tiny Hands). As above, I may be missing something in my pre-coffee haze, but that's what I've got for now. I've always considered Monsters and one-shot cards (e.g., "usable once only" Items and Monster Enhancers) in play during a combat, but once combat is decided in victory for the munchkin(s), all the Monsters have been slain, so all those cards are no longer in play and you can't Annihilate one to take away all of its Treasure. As for the other issue, as was already stated in that nice link to my own words, but worth repeating: It says, right on the card, that it cancels a card if it has just been played, and that's some strong juju right there. Canceling a card means it has no effect at all, just like Wishing Ring can cancel the effect of a curse as it's being played (especially curses that have instant effect, like "Lose a Level" or "Discard 2 Cards") so it has no effect at all. . . Yes I think so Chad. I already asked that question once. Here is the link:
http://forums.sjgames.com/showthread.php?t=66029 Eric said that you don't get to draw another door card here. :) Cheers, Yukimura
