Well, instead of thinking about a static document, you could begin to look at options introduced through more advanced PDF. Thus, you could generate a "form" where you input data and it makes specific calculations for you... Or roll dice and throw the input in another area or... Okay, I'll shut up now.
... Of course, it's suddenly requiring a lot more expertise as well, and if you're doing it for fun then you probably should be doing it to get paid as well. :D
