And no, I can't think of an easy fix. "Stage Presence" equals Charisma, Voice, or high skill, not a perk.
A perk is worth about 50% of what a full point is. So an occasional +1 to a performance is trivial

Compare also a couple or three points in "weapon bond" pretty much means every single attack a person makes is going to be at +1. Say a modern game (rifle, pistol, knife) or fantasy (sword, missile weapon, backup) thats a savings of a lot of points

Worrying about the abuse of performance skill of all things is the worst sort of bixel pitching I can imagine for most campaigns. A point in performance really doesn't matter for campaigns other than the occasional Bard oriented one. In most games they are flavor skills only.

As an option maybe -- Stage Presence

You gain +1 to one performance skill when performing for a crowd of not less than 8 on a prepared stage.

lastly an off topic -- BESM (by our very own David Pulver) did one thing better than GURPS. Rather than pricing by difficulty they priced skills by importance. In an Iron Chef campaign Cooking skill is pricey -- Guns skill is cheap.

This would make an excellent variant

Last time I checked, performance skills were full price. If you charge half price for 'em as a house rule, please remember the distinction.

Any skill can be a "flavor skill" in someone's campaign. Just because you don't use Performance skill in yours doesn't mean others don't.

Also, I'll note that you are evidencing the mindset that "Guns > Performance", which is definitely not a universal assumption.

The "prepared stage" bit makes that better, but it's still pretty wide open for a -75% discount. Up the required number of people to 1,000 at a minimum and it'd probably be okay.

1st off -- I apologize for the abrasive post. It was rude and after I ate my hotdogs I edited that (too late)

2ndly -- I owe you an apology -- It is 4 points a level. I thought the prices were still the same from 3e. That just tell me that those skills are grossly overpriced. If you have more than 5 (and many people do) average or harder skills above Attribute +1 it makes more sense to buy IQ or a talent -- ah well

3rd I do use performance skill in my games. Its just how shall we say less useful than weapon skills in most games . I rarely if ever see these rolls mattering all that much and if you give credo to what sells and has been published (tons of combat stuff in every format vs. just bare handful of social related articles in Pyramid-- 3 or 4 I think ) I am pretty sure that the case for the vast majority of campaigns

4th Since Performance is 4 points (after +1) From a pure point POV you are right. Its not
a fair perk. Its probably minor for some skills (Equipment Bond, Musical Instrument is +1 essentially all the time) but rules wise, yeppers.

GURPS point costs are funny anyway

As an example I can invent a power "Sexy Shoeless God of War" (or "Wardancer's Grace is you prefer a less comic name)

The power is

Dex +1 per level (only while light or less encumbered -20% In combat only -20% only while not wearing shoes -10%) for 10 points a level

It is is functionally +1 to every weapon skill, a bonus to speed and a host of other skills as well, at least when it really counts. Take 2 levels and you have +1 to every defense as well. It would be a heck of a lot cheaper than weapons skill levels (for more than a couple anyway) and probably point balanced according to the rules at least --

It even serves a niche (for characters like Groo) or for people who are just better in fights (a spaz who gets focused when life is on the line) now I wouldn't allow it but there you go

Accepted, and don't sweat it. I've made my share of mistaken assumptions in posts as well. :)

Sexy Shoeless God of War is a reference that I'm just waiting to work into a GURPS book somehow. :)

Naw, that's more like -10%, -10%, and -5%, really, for 15/level. The same as if the GM allowed you to take a Talent for all the weapon skills you used. So that's about right.

Chris Hanson Effect: You may command one opponent who is trying to leave your presence or otherwise not attacking you to sit down for a talk by calmly using the phrase "Why don't you have a seat right over there?" You must have a hand free to indicate where you want him to sit and be able to speak the command. The target will immediately comply, although nothing keeps him from jumping right back up and leaving again. But it does set him up for a further Influence attempt.

Heh. I know. I was feeling a little silly that day. And I was recalling the parody of To Catch A Predator they did on Robot Chicken.

The Fast Lane: You always manage to get in the line that's moving faster than the others. At the bank, the supermarket, the box office, the parking garage -- doesn't matter, your line always clips right along. Perk-level Serendipity.

Green Light a Go-Go: The traffic lights are always with you. As long as you have a specific destination in mind, you manage to catch every green light to that destination, spending a minimum of time in transit. Perk-level Serendipity.

Grunge Sexy: For some reason, the dirtier or more disheveled you are, the hotter you appear to be (think Evangeline "Kate" Lilly on Lost...) +1 to apparent Appearance as long as you are not cleaned up. Can't stack with Appearance mods that require you to clean up, of course.

Travel Efficiency: As long as you have a defined starting point and destination, you automatically know the most efficient route between them. Thus, you spend the minimum amount of time in transit. Perk-level Absolute Direction
