The Henge isn't an illusion; it's an actual physical change. Witness all the times that they shapeshift into weapons and the time that Naruto and Gamabunta turn into the Kyuubi.

A Ninja Talent might be good here, for the most obvious silent & deadly non-combat abilities.
For the fighting arts, it's a matter of taste whether you want to go with Innate Attacks or massively larger-than-life Martial Arts moves (or even a combination). frex, Thousand Years of Pain could be built painlessly with a Hit Location technique (dunno how much the location penalty actually is, never tried to strike there in a GURPS game myself) and Power Blow. |

Hmm, I like what you've done, and I'll give it a better look in the morning.
But, Taijutsu needs to be a talent, too. It's not just martial arts, though marital arts does model it rather well. The problem is Rock Lee. Lee is specifically stated to have no talent in Genn and Nin jutsu, and only a little bit of talent in Taijutsu. Obviously his dex score, even as a child, wasn't 9 or 8, so it has to come from somewhere else. Though perhaps a distinction should be made between Flying Leaps and plain old karate in that one need the Taijutsu talent and the other one doesn't (but it still helps.) |

Rock Lee just put all the Character Points he's earned into attributes, skills, and the Iron Fist Taijutsu martial art style's techniques, along with a few attribute bonus powers with massive drawbacks to let him level them up even faster (the Eight Celestial Gates).
I also started work on a Bleach conversion, but it sort of floundered when I realized I couldn't quite stat up the non-quite Insubstantial nature of Bleach spirits. |

The Pluses (ghosts) seem insubstantial though. I personally would rather limit their insubstantial with "Affected by non-Mundane attacks, -20% than give everyone a bunch of "Affects Insubstantial" enhancements since you usually don't have a reason to fight Pluses anyway. If you don't want Hollows to be especially vulnerable to guns I suggest "IT: Homogeneous (Mundane Only, -20%)", perhaps along with a few levels of DR. Bleach suffers from the 'What kind of strength do you give Superman Anyway?'-problem, so as far as power-level goes I'd just suggest that you pick a level you like fighting at. Anyway, regarding both Bleach and Naruto, for a GURPS setting I highly suggest using the mook rules, and reducing the DR and Hp of most plot unimportant structures and props significantly. It will save you a major headache, trust me.

The interaction between matter and spirit particles in Bleach is kooky. All that's been said is that they don't interact too well; one of the omakes about the 4th division 3rd Seat has him thinking about getting contact lenses from Urahara since normal ones won't work for a Shinigami. Also, they don't fly. They walk on platforms of spirit particles they create underneath their feet from ambient spirit particles. It's why they kick up clouds of smoke when they skid to a stop in mid-air. Quote:
Combat in Bleach is basically a contest of raw spiritual brute force. A person focuses their spiritual energy to attack their enemy (whether that spiritual energy takes the form of a sword or a gun or a fist), and if it's stronger than the energy it's opposed by, it breaks through and hurts them. It's why Ichigo's sword has a tendency to get cut in half whenever he fights anyone he's overclassed against. There are a few oddball exceptions like the special abilities of the swords of Ayesagawa and Kira, but odds are that someone with enough brute spiritual power can rip their way free of them like Ichigo ripped free of various kido spells using brute force. Nothing to add to the thread. I just wanted to point out that the Bleach posts, although of interest, really belong in a thread of their own.
I haven't been getting my anime Naruto fix lately, so I've started reading the manga. Only up to #11 in the SJ series. |
