Both ST and more steel increase the kinetic energy of weapons; a longsword does more damage than a knife in GURPS largely because of the increased moment of inertia. GLAIVE suggests (http://www.gamesdiner.com/glaive3e) a straight-up damage add that's logarithmic in the weight of the weapon, so a x2.5 weight of steel would be worth about +2 to damage in addition to the effects of higher ST.
