Probably because it generally is not seen at the FLGS.

It's common knowledge that I despise fantasy. However, anything that gets people to buy and play GURPS is okay by me. It isn't my cup o' tea, but it doesn't have to be.

I'm not really old, but I do feel old sometimes. To me, this is no different than when someone hates sports, or hates "chick flicks" or anything like that. I simply cannot stand about 90% of what is represented by the Fantasy genre (and pretty much 100% of Dungeon Fantasy). I would rather not play than play fantasy. I would rather do just about anything other than play fantasy. I think I "out-grew" fantasy at age 12. I'm not dissing fantasy, I just realized that there are "better things" than fantasy. I would much rather be a super hero or a starfighter than a fighter or a mage. And I certainly did not want to be wandering around in dungeons killing monsters and taking their stuff. I have video games for that . . . video games that I don't play. I also hate Sit-Coms and Reality TV. |

It happens. I can't speak for Mark, but some people really can't stand the moral absolutism implied in many fantasy games. For my part, I'm actively repulsed by the smug sense of superiority implicit in conspiracy-centric games.

But back on topic ... I wonder what the actual spread of DF is. Beyond those who buy it, how many others they touch with it in their gaming groups, and whether or not that touch causes a good game or a lawsuit. |

I ask because I've never gotten a sense of smugness or superiority from the conspiracy-centric games I've been involved in. Heck, I've played in D&D fantasy games that were conspiracy-centric. So...I guess I'd like to understand your position more. |

On the other hand, I can get "not my thing." I can't imagine ever wanting to play Vampire: The Masquerade or its successor species. Bill Stoddard |
