Quick Question: Do any of you still have a copy of GURPS: Terradyne and could tell me the year and month that it was first published or released. ?
About 10 or 15 years ago I concocted a 'blended' timline from various Sci Fi settings books and reference things I had around here. GURPS: TERRADYNE was one of the books. Unfortunately I sold it to HALF-PRICE Books right before 4th edition GURPS came out. If I had kept it - I might have considered updating it and adjusting it for 4th edition. Msinly the dates for near future events is what needs adjusting and bumping up a little. - Ed Charlton

I don't have a copy on hand, but I had when not long after I started playing GURPS. I bought my first GURPS books in the summer of 1990.
RPG.Net lists publication information for RPG books and they have the book as being released in 1991. Their index has a review in Dragon #190, which appeared in 1993. http://index.rpg.net/display-entry.p...editionid=8967 So, sometime in 1991 seems about right for the release of and copyright date of GURPS Terradyne.

Thank you guys - that will help with my slight adjustment to the timeline. If I decide to use it again.

Let me know what you come up with for the timeline. GURPS Terradyne has long been one of my favorite settings, and updating it to 4e has recently started bubbling its way towards the top of my to-do list...

Quote:
Its not exactly updating Terradyne, so much as it is adjusting upwards the estimates of when certain events/things would happen. The sort of events that many science fiction timeliners estimate for the 'near future' - things like first base on the moon, first landing on Mars, first outpost or even city on the Moon or Mars - that kind of thing. For axample if I was doing an 'adjust'/update on the REIGN OF STEEL timeline I would bump up most everything by 6 years since the book came out 6 years ago. In the case of GURPS: Terradyne we have a difference of 18 years between 1991 and now. As a result I'm making all those key events in the Terradyne list take place 18 years later. I always thought that the events of the ALIEN/ALIENS movies might fit into the Terradyne backlground somehow. It would be at a later point when things are still dominated by corporations and the military but maybe Terradyne has fallen on hard times. Its main competitors - Weyland-Yutani and Hyperdyne got a bigger market share for a little while. So, I also worked in events from those movies into my "Blended" timeline. The later ecebtsa along the timeline are entirely my ownm inve ntion, but inspired by suggestions in the 1st and 2nd edition of GURPS: SPACE and stuff said in the book GURPS: ALIENS. If I ever run this background universe again it will be using GURPS 4/e. - Ed Charlton

*nodding* I know what you mean. I've been tinkering for a long time with a "future history" timeline that uses Terradyne as the "baseline" timeline but also incorporates elements from War against the Chtorr and Autoduel.
