some stuff from SilCORE was pretty cool, like the options. I used the Tristat... sorry 3 stats for a game i ran and it was great. if the creation system could be effortlessly used for character scale things that would be the cream on the cake.

I love the system, its only beat out by Storytelling really because of their excellent psychic rules for ordinaries [wanting to run a Push style game]. some kind of character scale powers system would be awesome. But even if very little was changed for 4th edition i would probably still get it.

Very well done, I have been using them and modifying them to our own house in rules for some time. A very deep storyline in Heavy Gear. however I must admit to being more interested in tactical issues than RPG. I hope a common baseline in Gurps is attempted at some point. And more information on Landships is forthcoming.

My only experience of HG is through HG 2nd. I hope 4e doesn't complicate things . Instead I hope it fine tunes what worked in 2e & fixes what didn't. I'd like it to stay nice & easy to play. I admit I've been tempted to convert HG to SM2 rules if I can find or rebuy more old books. I'll hold off till I can see more about HG 4e's development.

Hi, everyone. John, I was very excited when I heard that HG4e was in the works. I've been a fan of the RPG for a very long time. In fact it was the RPG that got me interested in the minis game.

As a straight-up games engine, I rate Silhouette as my personal favourite. Many of its good qualities have already been mentioned here: simplicity, quick to learn and use, and I'll add that it's easily adaptable to other "hard fiction" settings.

My group eventually lost interest when 3e came out. As a whole we are a pretty "hard fiction" bunch, i.e. we like things gritty and realistic. We ran a homegrown campaign of Silhouette Traveller for quite a while. HG is a setting that naturally appealed to us, but things like complexity and little new content (for HG) that was directly usable at the game level didn't do much to enhance the play. So we moved on.

John, I'm a very big fan of a good megaplot and solid plot elements built into it. So I guess I can summarize by saying that I love Silhouette in general, 2e more than 3e, and have encouraged its use for many settings. If 4e can build on its roots, then I think it'll be a great game.

I want to start out that I am a huge fan! I picked it up when it was first edition and even have Heavy Gear fighter. Had most of the books and a lot of the old Ralfm minis. To bad lost every thing in a move. @#$#ing EVERYTHING! I did make a attempt to get back into the game with 2e. Loved that system. Loved the fact that It was both a RPG and a minigame!

Now the Rant

As much as I loved the system and the game the company ****** me off. As I was getting back into it out came 3e which was bad. The miniatures changed scale (which was not so bad because I lost all my old ones:-)) Then it seemed that DP9 just lost focus on game making and it went down hill from there. Now I hope that with SJGs taking over the helm that it will get back on track.

Now with what hooked me to the game.

First the Art work!! I was looking for a anime style mech game and battletech just was not it. The art work caught my eye and blew me away. It would be great if you could get the old artist back.

Second it was a fast and simple system, The RPG was lite enough to get my non gamer and non RPGer friends to play but deep enough to keep my die hard rpgers in to it. 2e had some flaws but over all a tight system.

Third it was a mini game as well. Now this brings me to a cross road. I am on the fence about starting with LnL. The minis rock and from what I am hearing its a tight system, but will it intergrate with 4e.

Fourth the story line was what kept every one into it. Hands down one of the best hard Sci Fi settings around. I hope the story line get straightend out and finished!

What I want to see from 4e is the fast and easy 2e Rpg rules with a skirmish scale mini rules and LnL will be the goto system for the large and climatic battles. Thats it not to much to ask for:-)

But what still scares me is the fact of DP9s track record. I will be watching the developement of 4e closely but it will be a hard sale because of passed support.

Instead of quoting half the posts here I simply nod in agreement with those supporting fast and easy rules that provide believable results. I also strongly agree with people who would like to have working mechanics for tactical combat without any use of board, minis and other stuff that doctors tending infants need to distract their patients with. On the field of battle there are no hexes, calculable probabilities nor total spatial awareness. It's a hazy bundle of chaotic mess conquered through routines brought by training, battle hardening and will to triumph...
