1.) Strategy: We stay on the defensive in Rohan rather than attack Isengard or take all the Riders to Minas Tirith.
2.) Operations: The best place at which to defend is Helm's Deep, rather than Edoras or Dunharrow. Collect the forces there. 3.) Tactics: Put ____'s unit on the left-hand wall -- it's higher and that unit is less experienced. Put the Royal Guard, Eomer, and that weird Ranger on the main gate -- that's where the main attack will come and we'll need the best people there. If the Orcs and Dunlendings break through the wall have the survivors go to the keep or the caves. My sort-of definitions: Tactics -- the use of fire, maneuver and shock on the battlefield (or now the battle-volume) to defeat the enemy forces or seize essential terrain & resources. Operations -- the use of battle and maneuver in the theater of operations to attain strategic objectives. Strategy -- the allocation of national military resources to theaters of war, and the decisions on how to use those resources, in order to attain national political, economic, or social objectives. |
