Default Anime Ordinary High School Students

I'm working on a cinematic GURPS 4E anime game. My starting point is that all PCs will start out as the cliché ordinary high school students.

So my first thought is how write a template for an OHSS.

I'm considering having the PCs made up with 50 points, -50 points in disadvantages

My plan so far is to give all the PCs 50-100 points of psionic powers. Maybe with some martial arts chi powers or covert involuntary cyborgization instead for some PCs.

I'm deliberately not planning too far ahead on this.

The first few adventures will be about how they deal with the abusive use of psi by other students. Of course, knowing this group it may well end up being about how other psionic students deal with the PCs abuse of their powers. After that I have vague ideas about the usual ancient conspiracies and sinister corporations sticking their oars in.

As to GURPS related anime resources, I've got GURPS Mecha (3E) and In Nomine Anime. And I've found some good stuff searching the forums here.

And There are some good things here:
http://www.thecabal.org/gurps/rareitems/index.html
http://robkelk.ottawa-anime.org/rpgs/index.html
http://web.archive.org/web/200210031...ard/gurps.html

Any pointers to other resources are greatly welcome.

Template for Ordinary High School Students (Japan) Net cost [4]

This is nominally at the end of the first year of high school (10th grade in the US), 15 years old, so there are no Attribute modifiers.

ST 10 [0]
DX 10 [0]
IQ 10 [0]
HT 10 [0]

Advantages:
[-30] Patron: Parents, level 1, 15-
[0] Language Japanese, Native

Disadvantages:
[-25] Dead Broke
[-5] Social Stigma (Minor)

Hair color: any

Skills:
Mathematics (applied) 8 [1]
Literature 8 [1]
History (Japan) 8 [1]
Writing 9 [1]

General rule of thumb, skills 6 or below are failing, 7 marginal, 8 average, 9 superior, 10 honor students

I'm assuming that the stuff you learn in elementary and middle school goes into defaults and basic IQ.

Anime additions:

Disadvantages:

[2] Clueless (Romance only, -80%)
You can't tell when someone is interested in you romantically. Indirect hints go right past you, you won't think an invitation to go somewhere is a date if it is not explicitly called a "date", etc. Going the other way, you don't get it when you are being politely brushed off. Only blatant heavy handed approaches have any chance of getting through to you.

Swiped from Flynn Leek:
http://www.thecabal.org/gurps/rareitems/anime.html

Love Triangle (-5/-10 points disadvantage)
Player is involved romantically in some fashion with two other people. This results in either friendly rivalry for affection (5 point version) or outright combat to remove the person being fought over (10 points). The exact nature of the relationship is left up to the player or GM. This can be taken multiple times for really confusing situations...

Secret Love (Variable points disadvantage)
Character is in love with another character, but, for various reasons, it is kept secret. There are three catagories for who can know about the secret love: The intended target (most common), The character (He loves her, he just doesn't want to admit it, not even to himself), and everyone else in the campaign. For each category that doesn't know, add three points. If they know, but are just keeping quiet about it, they're only worth 1 point. If a rival is involved somehow, add five points

Quirks:

[1] Shoujo Mallet (From GURPS Mecha, p34)

[1] Expressive Hair
Your hair reflects your emotional reactions. It will literally stand on end when you are shocked or surprised, droop when you are depressed, turn red when you are enraged, etc. This is not under your conscious control and is not strong or dexterous enough to be able to manipulate objects.

[1] Chronically Late
You don't mean to, but somehow no matter what you do, you are almost always at least a few minutes late.

I'd better hold off on skills until I figure out how to do tables here.

I'm not really the biggest fan of the genre in my viewing, but I suspect that I would really enjoy this campaign. :)

Why isn't this just a special effect on Easy To Read [-10]?

If this refers to the ability to pull a mallet from thin air, but only for dramatic purposes, shouldn't it be a perk rather than a quirk? I mean, being able to express yourself, consequence free, with a large hammer seems rather more advantageous than disadvantageous to me.

Ninja'd. Though it could even be treated as Rapier Wit (Mêlée, Reach C-1 -25%)

By the time Japanese students get to first-year high school, they've picked up enough English that "[2] Language: English, Broken" should also be on the template. A very few will have taken conversational English classes in cram school or corresponded with English-speakers on the Internet, so "one point added to English" should be available as an optional trait.

More importantly, the Japanese focus on the group over the individual should have produced a low-point-cost Ally Group (classmates or clubmates) for almost anyone in high school. Sometimes it doesn't, so this is again an optional trait, but it's a culturally-important one.

Many (but not all) Japanese middle schools require students to take part in a club activity. One point in the primary skill used by that club - and there are a lot of different clubs - would be reasonable by the time the character gets to high school.

(At this point, I'd normally refer you to my "Anime in RPGs" page, but I see you've found it already...)
