Low-tech: Gladius. There's just something about it that fits perfectly in my hand.
High-tech: Got to go with the shotgun. With my limited experience with firearms, I have a fair aim, but I'd rather sneak up on someone, get close, and come up on them shooting with a shotgun. High-tech: Give me a tankless high-tech flamethrower. Space opera: I want a lightsaber. |

Low-tech: If on foot, glaive. All the good things about a spear, plus the ability to swing with a blade. If a horse is at all available, cavalry sabre. Sure, cavalry lances might be better in some situations, but you won't decapitate anyone with them. For sheer bizarreness, dual repeating pistol crossbows combined with Heroic Archer, so I can play out pre-gunpowder Gun Fu.
TL4: Flintlock pistols. All weapons of that era take forever to load, but you can't go around with a bandolier full of muskets. TL5: Revolvers rule at that era. Rapid fire, and the ability to use them easily from horseback. TL6 - 8: Depends too much on situation and the type of campaign to really say, although I favour silenced pistols ("If they know they're going to be shot at, you're doing it wrong"). Ultra-tech: Force swords are just irresistible, if they can parry projectiles. |

No I dont live in Vermont, I was referring to the Supreme Court finally ruling on the DC gun ban and the 2nd amendment in general. I didnt so much mean where I live (I live in NC, and gun control is more or less a non issue here, and defined as putting 10 in the 10 ring).

I like what weapons look like and I'm no Martial Arts or firearms expert so here goes :
Low-Tech: Swords or Katanas. Dunno why but I like swords a lot. Maybe I used to be a swordsman in a previous life ;) High Tech: Chaingun. How I loved it in old Wolfenstein 3D games :) Awesome rate of fire with a killer looking weapon. No one likes to be in front of it once the barrels start spinning :) Ultra Tech: Tough choice. I guess I have to declare both energy/laser swords ex-aequo with the BFG-9000. As I mentionned, I love swords, Jedis et Zero from the Megaman X series. As for the BFG-9000 (from the Doom PC game), it is a portable weapon of mass destruction and the name says it all ;) (BFG stands for Big F**king Gun). :) |
