Well, there is a lot of time between them, as well as - a fresh start for the new Enterprise where they maybe realized some of the old numbers where just sort of total crap.

Do you actually need so many G with a warp drive that works outside the atmosphere? I mean, the G will only be used when going down into atmosphere, or when the warp drive is off, or? Canon in th Enterprise universe seems to indicate tha they use Warp for nearly everything.

As such it makes little sense, imho, to carry hugh beasts around ;) AND the "new enterprise - NX-01" had to have some more primitive feeling (which they manage extremely well, if you ask me - it had exactly the right not so spacy feeling).
