Default Dungeon Fantasy: Arachnia's Castle

*As told by Father Osby, Holy Cleric, Defender of Our Lord

"We entered the gate to the faery realm and we were in a vast forest. Our party consisited of Gorn the Barbarian, Maltho the Mage and Gondle the halfling thief. It was night time and the moon was looming overhead. The sky was inky black with tiny stars dotting it. We encountered a path through the trees. The trees were remarkable, some of which looked blighted while other grew with unnatural vigor. There was thick brush next to the path, of which were covered in the most awful thorns. Spiderwebs draped many of the trees. The webs were of giant spiders no doubt as they stretched from the tops of some trees to the ground. As we walked we noticed what looked like silk cocoons hanging from the trees. At closer inspection some of the cocoons looked man-sized and almost had the same form. We decided to press ahead. As we walked further we thought we began seeing spectral forms move among the trees. We could never be sure for they vanished before we could fix our gaze upon them . Also, there were sounds, as of things running between the trees along the trail. When we stopped to listen closer the noises stopped. In the trees above we could hear noises as of things crawling among the branches. We decided to ignore the noises and press ahead.

As we walked futher, an almost comical form flew by. It looked as if some sort of sprite was flying across our path. It had curious wings, almost like a luner moth. As we watched it fly by, the sprite looked back at us. As it turned we saw its face which almost looked demonic. The thing smiled back at us with an evil grin, this was unfortunate because the thing became caught in one of the many spider webs in the trees. The thing struggled and made noises as if to ask for help. As we approached closer, a rustling came out of the trees and a giant spider quickly bit the thing and it stopped moving. A second later the spider disappeared taking the thing with it into the trees. We paused and then decided there was nothing we could do to help. We presed on further.

Finally, we saw some sort of castle in the distance. We walked until we came upon a large barred gate. The gate was open and we went inside what was probably a court yard. There many statues, many towered over us. The statues were of hideous demonic beings with monstrous faces. Some had fallen over and others were leaning but all were covered with a shroud of spider webs. There were sounds of things scuttling among the staues but we were unable to discern what they were.

Through the courtyard, we approached a castle that spired to tremendous heights. The castle seemed to be made of a polished black stone, maybe it was obsidion. It shimmered in the moonlight. There were also carvings on the castle walls that looked as if demonic gargoyles leering at us. There were spider webs here too and also it looked as if things were crawling on the walls of the castle. There was a great door at the entrance. This door was of metal and it had spider relief in the middle of it. We decide to try to open the door and to our surprise it was unlocked. Gorn swung the door open and it opened into a room that was lit with sconces. In the midlle of the room, there was a table set with food; meats, breads, pastries and wine. On the side of the table was a pile of gold coins, stacked neatly. There were many gems beside the coins and even what looked like finely crafted swords and daggers. It had to be a trick. Gorn went in first. He used his sword to probe the food and then the gold coins. This didn't seem to be an illusion. Then Gondle and Maltho went in. They decided they would not take any of the food or gold coins as they were obviously some sort of trick.

I stood at the door guarding the exit. The others searched the room for clues. All of a sudden there was a blinding flash and then everything went dark. I heard my party screaming. I quickly cast a light spell and saw that where there once was a room was now just a pit. I looked down into the pit and saw Gorn, Gondle and Maltho. They were yelling for help. It seems they were caught in a giant spider web. I was thinking how to free them when a hideous and unworldy spider form decended down into the pit. Darkness enveloped the pit. My blood froze and I screamed in terror. My heart raced and I began to sweat. Gorn, Gondle and Maltho all let out bloodcurtling screams. I was frozen in terror and couldn't move. Soon the screaming stopped. The darkness still hung over the pit. I decided to cast another light spell and it didn't work. All I could see was darkness. I yelled for Gorn and Gondle, there was no reply. The I yelled for Maltho and still there was no reply. Slowly some lights started to appear, they were sconces and eventually I could see a table and food and pile of treasure. I turned around and ran as fast I could, through the courtyard, through the forrest and back to the faery gate and exited the faery realm."
