A faery circle is a ring faery mushrooms that act as a portal to the faery realm. In a high mana zone the faery circle open the portal at midnight every night. In a normal mana zone, the faery circle opens the portal at midnight during the full moon and in a low mana zone it only opens at midnight on solstices. Of course the night lasts much longer close to the faery realm!
Just before dawn, the faeries can go back to the faery realm by going through the faery ring. It is said that the faery elves bring their mortal cousins, the wood elves, elf-shot to defend the faery ring against those who may damage it or steal the mushrooms. There is a high demand for faery mushrooms in the alchemist community. When the faery folk come to the mundane world they love to revel with their counterparts, the mortal elves. They are said to drink and dance and often release a faery animals for a wild hunt. They ride faery horses and have faery dogs to catch what is often a faery stag. But, beware of venturing into a forest with the faery folk, during these time the forest grows much larger and distances are not consistant because the faery world merges with the mundane. What once once was a mile of forest can stretch on forver when it is merged with the faery realm. The faery elves, who are said to be immortal, have great magical powers. But this comes at a cost, they are affected by iron and can only live in areas with mana, while their mortal cousins are not affected by iron and don't need mana to survive. The mortal elves see it as their duty to protect the natural areas in the mundane world so that the faery elves can come to visit. A healthy forest ensures the mana will be high so as to keep the faery rings open. |
